The Federal Hog Cholera.
Quarantine has been lifted
from Bell County effective im-
mediately according to Dr.
J. F. Sousares Hog Cholera
Office in Waco. The State Hog
Cholera quarantine is still in
effect indefinitely.
This means hogs going for
slaughter no longer must be
inspected before shipment.
However feeder and breeder
hogs moving from one farm to
another farm must be inspect
ed and n permit issued before
movement. New hogs coming
on a farm are quarantined for
30 days after their arrival.
This 80 day quarantine on new
hogs coming on a place is aim-
ed at preventing trader hogs
from spreading the disease.
Federal inspectors are still
available to swine producers
for issuing permits on feeder

and breeder hogs moving from
one farm to another farm.
These inspectors are Charles
Stone - phone 756-4907 Jim
Webb - phone 763-4763 and
Vance Long phone 863-5254.
These inspectors should be
reached 2-3 days before tho
shipment date. The permit is
good for 96 hours after being
issued. This give the swine
grower some "leeway" in ob-
taining a permit without un-
due hardship.
W. E. Roane hog cholera in-
spector says "the hog cholera
situation is looking a lot better
here in Central Texas. This
has not been a confirmed case
of hog cholera here since May
14. The quarantine appears to
be really working in the era-
dication of hog cholera."
Joe Wentrcek of Meeks is
pleased with the weed and
grass control from his prc-
emerge banded Treflan ap-
plication on cotton. He says
"tho cotton was replanted
twice and I still got excellent
control."
Treflan has to be incorpora-
ted into the soil in order to be
effective. Wentrcek accom-
plished this incorporation by
running two rods in a vertical
position between the seed
chute and the coverng plows.
These rods pushed enough soil
to cover the cottonseed lightly.
The spray nozzle wag directed
to apply the Treflan to the soil
being stirred behind the ver-
tical ords and ahead of the
covering plows. This prevent-
ed Treflan from getting on the
seed.
He applied the Treflan in a
12 inch band at the rate of 1
quart per 6 acres. The Treflan
cost $6.50 per quart which fi-
gured $1.08 per acre. His Tre-
flan application was effective
even in a dry year.
Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Cowsert
and Mr. and Mrs. Dock Cowsert
of Austin visited here Sunday
with relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Berg and
Nora Harvey of Taylor visited
in Dallas during the week-end.
