Lexington cnpitnlized on five
Bartlett interceptions to defeat
the Bartlett Bulldogs 29-16 here
Friday night. It was the first
win of tho season for the Lions.
Bartlott passers completed as
many passes to the opposition
as they did to their mates and
two of tho thefts went for
touchdowns. Bartlett won the
last three quarters but gave up
too much in the first period.
Neither team could move on
its first possession but after
returning a Bartlett punt to
midfield Lexington moved in to
score. Tailback Pat Pratt was
the big gun in the drive putting
the ball on the 10 nnd then
carrying over left tackle for
the final four yards. Quarter-
back Curtis Wren rolled around
left end for the PAT.
Bartlett returned the kickoff
to tho 28 and punted and John
Brown returned to the 48. On
the first play halfback Moso
Veal hit off left tackle slid to
tho sidelines and went 52 yards
to score. Franklin Fischer stop-
ped Wren on the PAT at right
end.
Dan White returned the kick-
off to the 31 and Wayne Powell
'sprinted 21 yards too the 50 and
Sam Davis picked up another
first down before Wade Parks
intercepted nnd returned to the
Eagle 32 as the quarter ended.
The ball seesawed on five
possessions until Bartlett had
the ball on its 31 late in the
quarter. The old interception
bugaboo jumped up again nnd
Brown ran through the entire
team for 50 yards and a score
with only 25 seconds left in the
half. Wren passed to Sealious
Parks for the points that madde
the score 22-0 at halftime.
Actually Lexington had time
for another score before the
half as the Bulldogs fumbled on
the 16 nnd the Eagles recovered
and made a first down to the
six before a short penalty nnd
a Bruce Swope tackle ended the
threat.
White returned the kickoff to
the 35 and Bartlett kicked dead
at the Eagle 20. They made 3
firsts before Bartlett held at
the 33. It did no good however
as Brown intercepted a flat zone
pass and ran 35 yards to score.
Larry Carothers kicked the
29th point but the Bulldogs
were still dozing.
tAn interception stopped Bart-
lett at the Eagle 33 but when
Don Wade jumped on a fumble
at the Eagle 33 the Bulldogs
aroused and got angry. Bartlett
rammed to the four and Sam
Davis drove across the goal but
there were offsetting penalties.
Bartlett gave up tho ball on tho
one but Ken Stauffer crashed
through to drop Wren for a
safety and it was 29-2 at tho
beginning of tho final period.
Davis rammed tho ensuing
kickoff from the 25 to the Eagle
48 and Powell sped 20 ynrds for
a first before Bnrtlett gave up
the ball at the 26. Lexington
got a big penalty and then Stau-
ffer partially blocked a punt
nnd Bartlett got the ball at
the Eagle 20. After a first
Davis hit right tackle for tho
final three ynrds. D. A. Swope
passed to Powell to make the
score 29-10.
Lexington returned the kick
to tho 18 nnd kicked out at
midfield. Three first downs
later Swope hit center for tho
two yards and Don Ruemke
was caught short on a run for
the PAT.
An onsido kick failed and
Lexington cot the ball but the
Bulldogs held and got the ball
at their 39 and began to drive
as the game ended.
