Bleachers Rebuilt
School Is Repaired
New football bleachers were
the largest improvement made
on the school during the sum
mer. These bleachers have ce-
ment blocks for foundation
and the seats are wider and
much sturdier than the former
stands. An added safety fea-
ture is the railing around the
top and sides. The press box
is designed with glass windows
in front and a shelf for the
public address system inside.
Other repairs made include
painting the baseball bleach-
ers revarnishing floors in the
hallways and Ag shop and
putting new floor covering in
the lunchroom. Also the lunch-
room various desks and some
classrooms were given a fresh
coat of paint.
Mrs. Jane Von Praag of Aus-
tin was a week-end visitor of
her parents Mr. and Mrs. M.
M. Leatherman.

Take Part In
U. S. Dental Survey
The Bartlett Public Schools
in co-operation with the United
States Health Department
took part in a dental survey on
the effect of excess fluoride on
students' teeth. Thirty-three
high school students' teeth
were examined.
Dr. H. S. Horowitz director
of the program said "We are
examining only children who
have lived their entire life in
Bartlett." He stated that in a
1960 survey there was a noted
improvement in all teeth and
similar results are expected this
time especially in children ten
or younger.
"Eventually residents here
will not have the pitted stain-
ed teeth which are caused by
an excess of fluoride in Bart-
lett's water since for the past
eleven and a half years the
water has been de-fluorinat-ed"
Dr. Horowitz added.
The dentists also examined
teeth at the Elementary School
and at Booker T. Washington
School.
Assisting Dr. Horowitz
were: Dr. A. Russell Dr. S.
Heifetz and Dr. W. A. Buck-
ner from the Texas State
Health Department Dental
Division. Miss Helen Sheary a
dental hygenist was in charge
of getting the necessary data
from all students.
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Hudec
of Temple have been visiting
Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Stevenson.
Mart Leatherman was in
San Antonio Friday to attend
the funeral of a cousin the
daughter of Lon Munger a for-
mer resident of Bartlett.

mann Mrs. Flora Meissner

ple Sunday.
