THANKSGIVING DAY
On this Thanksgiving morning may we pause
for reflection and meditation. Reflection, that w.3
may count a small portion of the blessings that
have l ecn ours. Meditation, that we tqay offer
^ lhanks. and resolve to show through some degree
of service that appreciation that a-creature owes
■? unto his Creator.
1
Within the ilext month and we will be standing
upon the threshold .of another year—-1928 is ah
most gone, and during the eleven months through
which we have passed, prosperity has blessed our
land, while peace and love have abided about the
* hearthstone of the American family; and if ever
a land had cause for due appreciation it is this
; one.
Countless years have passed since the Pilgrims
offered their thanks on this memorable day, and
surely their most Vivid imagination and fondest
dreams of an .ideal country did not hegin to pic-
ture this land, .ot plenty which we are enjoying
today.
But max our thoughts not only extend over a
broad survey. Let us come nearer home. Think
()f the friends, as true one to the other as was
the friendshij) of Damon and Pythias. Remember
the loved ones who make the days of life brighter
I>et1er and happier, and cherish the opportunities
thaf are ottered to each of us in the work of
promoting peace, love and prosperity to even a
higher degree than we are enjoying today.
Back of us is a heritage that calls for the very
best in every mail. The present offers advantages
that were unknown to even our fathers, and in the
future we can see a prosperity, telling us to build
stronger and truer upon the most perfect founda-
tion that the uiind ot man has ever conceived or
a merciful Father has ever blessed.
May we offer our thanks this day and resolve
"To live for those who love us,
For those whose hearts are true,
For a heaven that smiles above 11s
And the good that we might do.”

At the time we are hammering out this hot-air,
11 looks as though Thanksgiving Day might have
its share of rough weather. But who ean dip into
the future for even twenty-four hours and guess
correctly. Remember Tennyson tried it once, but
up to this day that perfect dream of the tomorrow
has not come true.
Don't think for a moment that the world can’t
move without you. Should you die today, friends
pause long enough to put your remains away,
place a flower upon your grave, and extend the
thoughts rtf charity enough to speak of your vir-
tues and forget your follies, then the old world
would move on in the same old way and you would
live only in the memories of a few.
Snow was reported in various parts of Texas on
Monday. Fortunately we had rain here in its place,
and just the kind of precipitation that was need-
ed. We are seldom bothered with snow down here
in the land of sunshine.

We have just read of a hunter who pled guilty to
killing a doe out in the Rock .Springs country, and
from our viewpoint it was a commendable act. The
hunter came tip on a poor doe that had been shot
through the hips, and the animal was simple
dragging itself through the woods. This man shot
Jt down, then went to town and told the game
warden what he had done, saying it was worth a
