Just A Liltle Boy
He stands at the plate with
heart pounding fast
The bases are loaded; the
die has been cast.
Mom and Dad cannot help
him he stands all alone.
A hit at this moment would
send the team home.
The ball meets the plate; he
swings and he misses.
There's a groan from the
crowd with some boos and
some hisses.
A thoughtless voice cries;
'strike out the bum.'
Tears fill his eyes; the
game's no longer fun.
So open your heart and give
him a break.
For it's moments like this
a man you can make.
Keep this in mind when you
hear someone forget.
He's just n little boy and
not a man yet. Bob Fox

Waterway
Maintenance
Can Save
Money
Every farmer has seen the
problems associated with
poorly maintained water-
ways: gullies overfalls loss
of valuable top-soil and
worst of all expensive
repairs. The one key to
staying ahca of these prob-
lems Is in waterway mainte-
nance. Did you ever see a
waterway with a thick dense
sod of coastal bcrmuda-grass
eroding? Probablv not.
Fertilization docs more to
insure that good stand of
grass than any other factor.
Several farmers have found
the best way to fertilize their
waterway Is during their
crop fertilizer application
trip. This method kills two
birds with one stone saving
an additional trip just to
fertilize waterways.
Weed control also plays a
big role in good waterways.
Occasionally even well
maintained waterways will
receive $ome damage after
an unusually big rain. A little
light dirt-work and spot-
sprigging will solve the prob-
lem. Lastly remember to keep
your waterways from being
over-grazed.
If you need any type of
conservation problem taken
care of call the Soil Conser-
vation Service in Bartlett at

Lots of kids get horses
when they are young but the
new soon wears off an they
tire of the smelly creatures
but not Chance Walker. Be-
fore long he was loping and
running Ol' Thunder and
wanting to enter him in a
horse show.That was a learn-
ing year for Chance and the
Walker family.
At six years old Chance
became a member of the
Central Texas Horse Show
Association an with this
came a faster horse he calle
Casper. He became a "tuff"
competitor and won third
place in the nine and under
and at the end of the year he
won the first of many prize
buckles.
He won his first saddle at
the Central Texas Horse
Show Association by being
high point individual in the
nine and under category.
In Oklahoma Chance won
the all around then he won
the all around In the Cleburne
Little Britches Rodeo then
on to Mason where he again
took all around honors and
the cap came in Ranger
where he won his second all
around cowboy saddle.
