Holland Homecoming
Will Be This Friday
) The 1979 Homecoming at Holland will be this Friday night
October 19. Action gets underway at 7:30 p.m. with a football
game between the Holland Hornets and the Mllano Eagles.
Halftlmc activities will include the crowning of the 1979
Homecoming Queen and presentation of the Fcotball
Sweetheart the Band Sweetheart the Band Beau and
Holland's 1979 Miss Flame.
Nominees for Homecoming Queen this year arc: Susie
Malina senior class Kim Tabor junior class; Laura Karl
sophomore class; and Kelley Baylcss freshman class
The Milano-Holland football game promises to be a tough
contest The Mllano Eagles who finished next-to-last in
district ploy last year arc much Improved and raised some
eyebrows last week with a 1-1-8 upset win over Hulto.
Although Holland easily defeated Mllano last year the
Eagles appear to be much better than preseason ratings
Indicated this year A good game Is In the offing.

Archie Scott Elected
I Booster Of The Week
Superintendent Archie Scott was elected Booster of the
Week for the Homecoming game with thcTroy Trojans when
members of the Bartlctt Athletic Booster Club met Monday
I night at Bartlett High School.
I Members of the club viewed the film of Bartlett's 21-0 win
over Liberty Hill last Friday night.
Coach Hussell Roberts announced that the junior high and
junior varsity football teams will be playing at Troy Thur-
sday (tonight) with the junior high game beginning at 0:00
p.m
Coach Roberts also announced that the varsity Bulldogs
will host Troy Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
The Booster Club will meet again Monday night October
22 at 7'00 p.m at Bartlctt HlghSchool.
All members arc encouraged to attend.

elected by popular vote and

band director met with the Bartlctt School
Board members when they met Tuesday
evening for their regular monthly
meeting.
Board members voted to support Gerald
Cobb for a place on the Board of Directors
of the Bell County Tax Appraisal District.
Board meeting time has changed from 8
p.m.to7p.m.
Bids will be accepted for the Mobile
Home until October 29th 1979. Bids will be
opened at 7 p.m. on Oct. 29th.
In other business board members voted
to engage a structural Engineer to
evaluate the structure of the vocational
building at high school.
The Senior Class was granted per-
mission by board members to extend their
senior trip for one day and one night.
Board members denied Mr. Martinez's
request tosponsorn school disco dance.
Bills were paid.

Historical Commission marker was unveiled in ceremonies held across the road from
the Donahoe Cemetery which is all that remains of the town which once flourished with

by Mrs. Brookshlre followed
by the devotional scriptures
from the book of Psalms
which was presented by Mrs.
Buford Stevenson.

Holland Board Casts
Vote For Tax Director
At their regular meeting Wednesday October 10 members
of the Holland School Board cast a vote for Darrcll R Cobb as
director of the new Bell County Tax Board. The Board will
govern the countywidc appraisal district set up the 1979 State
Legislature. According to Holland Superintendent Weldon
Bowman the board will be the final authority in the setting of
property taxes In the county.
Originally created with five members board membership
was .expanded to 7 members with one of those seven
designated as a representative of the small towns and schools
of Bell County. Holland Board members had a choice bet-
ween two nominees Cobb who is a farmer and rancher In the
Rogers area and Temple attorney Bob Burleson.
Superintendent Bowman reported that new lunchroom
bookkeeping procedures required by the State would
probably cost the district $1000.00. He also reported Sep-
tember enrollment figures at 327 pupils 188 in the lower
grades and 139 in grades seven through twelve.
Present at the meeting were Coleman Benncr board
chairman; Boady Johnson Charles Kohrlng Curtis Wolf and
Terry Bertram) board members; Weldon Bowman Mike
Roasa and Betty Stroud school administration.
Schools To Dismiss Early
Supt. Archie Scott an- hear Dr. Roth of the ESC XII
nounccd this week that the Waco.
Bartlett Public Schools will
dismiss at 2:30 p.m. next Dr. Roth will be speaking
Tuesday October 23 to allow on the work on the five year
teachers an opportunity to self evaluation plan.

Car Accident
Mr. and Mrs. E. H Kerr of
Houston remain in Scott and
White Memorial Hospital
following a car wreck on the
east access road of Interstate
Highway 35 at Pendlction Rd.
near Troy Friday night. Mrs.
Kerr sustained multiple
lacerations and a broken leg
and Mr. Kerr suffered
multiple lacerations. Mr
Kerr Is the son of the late
Robert and Ida Kerr of
Davilla and Mrs Kerr was
the former Louise Houston of
Granger. Mr. Kerr was a
school teacherin Williamson
and Bell County. Mrs. W H.
Shaw's sister-in-law Mrs.
Frank Underwood Is a sister
of Mr. Kerr.
The Kerr's are in the
process of building a new
home near the Val Verde
Church and were planning to
move there from Houston.
Family and friends are
wishing them both a speedy
recovery.

After a delicious meal the

given by Mrs. Mattie Baker
entitled "A Travelers Guide
To Heaven". Then a time was
spent on reminiscing and
comparing ways of life now
and what it was when
members were growing up.
