for said County to examine into the. situation
of the county funds or to what purposes they
had been applied Wc met agreeable to the
order of court and proceeded to business but
not having access to certain papers which
wcr absolutely necessary to the investigation
of the matterthe committee adjourned to meet
on this day in order to proceed to business
which we accordingly did but owing to tho
absence of the County Clerk wc weic not
able to get into the office in which there arc
papers & books that arc absolutely necessary
lor us to nave access to in oracr to make a
proper report. Why the Clerk left it 13 net
for tht3 committee to" say neither do they
knotv that mailer will bo for him to explain
hereafter but the committee cannot neither
will the give in to the idea that ft public of-
ficer is not bound to pay some respect to the
wishes or interest of the people so far at least
as at aU times to give them a fair chance to
examine into the ofuirs of his office.
The committee have come to the conclus-
ions adjourn to some future day to meet and
examine the affairs of the County and make
ihcir report. This they feel themselves
bound to do no difference what impediments
may be thrown in the way nor by whom.

dated Austin July 7 1345.
"To-day resolutions were passed after
much discussion inviting the U. S. troops to
march in and the bearer of this is a special
bearer ol both resolutions to Washington
City.
I hire heard several rumors tor the last
day or two concerning Indians and to day
Howard of San Antonio Gen. Tarrant and
six or eight others catne in from San An-
tonio in a wagon which they procund from
the Dutch colony they having had their
hortes stolen onthe Guadeloupe river. The
comrnnvof Dutch Rangers had inolof (heir
horses stolen the same night. We may have!
some fun with the Indians or Mexicans be-j
fore the troops get into this part of the coun-
try and there arc aaufneientnumbcrof men
in this place to protect it should we be inva-
ded before General Taylor arrives." Reg.

ty from Nacogdoches by a vote of 3G to 19.

Sabine and Bowie have not obtained
seats.
The Convention upon hearing ofthe Vice
President's death suspended business for one
day.

murdered by Indians near Corpus Christi.
We are told he left home for Corpus Christi

We have seen letters from the U. States
from which ?e learn that Gen. Houston will
not be able to return to the Republic in suffi-
cient time to serve his Montgomery constru
cts im She Convention. The low slate of
the river prevented his arrival at Nashville
until subsequent to the decease of Gen. Jack-
son and this event has seriously interfen d
with his arrangements. At tho solicitation
ofthe citizens- of Nash ville he consented 10
pronounce the derailed warrior's culogium
and he is nrccssarily detained at that city.
Invitations ofn character which it were al
most impossible to decline have aUo been
thronged upon him to visit Washington and
the northi'in cities of the Union. The coun-
try will therefore be deptived of his anticipat-
ed labors in the formation ofa Slate Constitu-
tion but wc trust the honor done the country
in th& person ofouroountryir.anwillin some
degree atone for his absence at a time when

Whereas the Congress of the United States
of America ha3 passed resolutions provi-
ding for the annexation of Texas to that
Union which resolutions were approved
by the PrcsHenl ofthe United States on
the first day of March one thousand eight
hundred and forty five; and whereas the
President of tho United States submitted
to Texas the first and second sections of
the said resolution as the basis upon which
Texas may be admitted as one ofthe States
ofthe said Union; and whereas the ex-
isting government ofthe Republic t f Texas
has assented to the proposals thus made
the terms and conditions of which arc as
follows:
