It seems that considerable torrents of Java are flowing
in the direction of Bronte. The damage alrea'dy

A London paper says that the works preparatory
to the commencement of cutting through the Isthmus
of Panama are advancing rapidly. The entire length

Winter at the North. While we have had
much cold weather to complain of the people at the
North arc speaking in favorable terms of the mildness
of winter with them. Some of the philosoahers say
that the 23 degrees and 2S minutes elevation of the
noith pole above the south is declining at the rate of
fifty minutes in a century. The poles are then com-
ing to a level. Summer and winter will be thesamc
at the north as at the south when the earth shall re-
gain an hori7ontal position. Many other things will
occur; but as the work can only he uxcoinpltsb.ed in
thirty-two 'centuries tte will waive our speculations
for the present. Probably the mild weather at the
North may be on accountof the presence theretil Par-
son Miller. Who knows what tire and brimstone
sermons can do ?
