THE TEXAS PjjESBYTERIAN.
The undersigned as well as the Church to J
wtiica he belongs belief log that the spiritual
wanta of tbe country are such as to demand
the publication ol a periodical defoted to the
cause ol Religion and Morality in this Slate
proposes publishing a paper ol tbe abate de-
scription. Notwithstanding tbe Editor is of the Cum-
berland Presbyterian Church it is his inten-
tion to devote bis columns to the adrancemenl
of the great interesta of Christianity in a gene
ral point ol view liis columns will be open
to all denominations of Christians not touching
contiovertcd points of doctrine. They will
also be free to all literary aad moral associa-
tions of Ihe country.
Great pains will be taken to keep the peo-
ple ol this State apprised of the doings ol the
Chuich in the United States and the people
abroad advised of Ihe workings of Providence
in Texas.
The current news nftbe day will at all limea
find a place in its columns. Intelligence from
the army and from Meiico shall receive par-
ticular attention.
In fine it is the Editor's aim lo make the
'Texas Presbyterian' a raluable family journal
accep'able alike lo all classes ol readers.

cing on the 18th of May 1847 created a
Board of Publication in tbe C. P Church
consisting ol M. Bird L. Jones F. E. Mc
Lean J. L Sfratton and A. SI. Phelps with
powers and privileges set forth in the consti-
tution. Tbe object of h liich is to furnish the
congregations and the community a whole-
some evangelical literature and to endeavor
