a Weelljf Neicrpaper to be called
THE TEXAS PRESIYTERIAN.
The undersigned as well as the Church to
which be belongs believing that the spiritual
wants of the country are such as to demand
the publication of a periodical devoted to the
cause of Religion and Morality in this State
proposes publishing a paper ol the above de-
scription. Notwithstanding the Editor is of the Cum-
berland Presbyterian Church it is his inten-
tion to devote his columns to the advancement
of the great interests of Christianity in a gene-
ral point of view. His columns will be open
to all denominations of Christians not touching
controverted points of doctrine. Tbey will
also be free to all literary and moral associa-
tions cf tbe country.
Great pains will be taken to keep the peo-
ple of this State appnstd of the doings of the
Chuich in the United Stales and the people
abroad advised of the aoikings of Providence
in Texas.
The current news of the day will at all times
find a place in lis columns Intelligence from
the army and from Mexico shall recuse par-
ticular attention.
In fine it is the Editor's aim to make the
'Texas Presbyterian' a valuable family journal
accep able alike lo all classes ol readers.

The General Assembly of the C P Church
at their meeting at Lebanon. Ohio commen-
cing on the 18th of May 1847 creaied a
Board of Publication in the C. P Church
consisting of M. Bird L. Jones F. E Mc-
Lean J. L Stratum and A. M. Phelps with
powers and privileges set forth in the consti-
tution The object of n hicb is to furnish the
congregatiins and the commuuity a whole-
some evangelical literature and lo endeavor
to awaken a spirit of moral and spiritual as
well as intellectual improvement.

of the Board met at Louisville Ky; M. Bird
L. Jones and J. L. Stratton.
M. Bird is appointed President L Jones
Recording and Corresponding Secretary.
A.M. Phelps is appointed Treasurer to re-
ceive and hold whatever voluntary donations
may be made by individuals congregations
presbvteriis friends of the enterprize or col-
lected by agents and to pay the same to the
order ol the Board signed by the President
and Secretary.
Tne C. Secretary is directed to propose 10
bro. S. M Aston an gency to solicit funds for
the Board. lo like manner bro. L -Jones is
appointed an agent.
It is hoped that each will accept the sgrn-
