Between the two classes of river
people is a tend that dates from the
old kedboat days, when steam power
deprived the huge rowboats of their
passenger and freight tragic.
Tbs shanty boaters ate strange float-
ing nomads. They have idany klnda
of boats, which they call “cabin boats,’’

“hogpen on a raft” to luxurious gaso-
line-driven houseboats of "large also
