ORDINANC
Repealing so much of an Ordinance as relates
io a License Tax in the City of Austin.
Be it Ordained ly tho Board of Aldermen of the city
of Austin in Council assembled That so much of the
Ondinance for creating a city revenue as relates to the
license tax be and is hereby repealed provided that
this Ordinance shall not be so construed as (o repeal the
ad valorem tax imposed on merchants as contained in
xhe 5lh section of the above recited Ordinance.

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF TEXAS
"WnnrtEAs b' an act of the Legislature
approved Match 20th 1843 it is required
that an election for Governor Lieutenant
Governor and Commissioner of the General
Land Office be held throughout this State
on the first Monday in August next.
Now therefore I P. Hansbkough Bell
Governor of the State of Texas do by vir-
tue of the authority in me vested heieby or-
der and direct that polls be opened at the se-
veral precincts of the respective counties in
this Sta'e on the first Monday (the fourth
day) of August next for the election by.bal-
lot of a Governor a Lieutenant-Governor
and a Commissioner of the General Land
Office. The Chief Justices of the several
counties (and in case of a vacancy in the
office of Chief Justice or inability of that offi-
cer to act then any two ol the county com-
missioners) will accordingly give due notice
and cause polls to be opened at the several
precincts of their respective counties on the
said first Monday (the fuurth day) of August
next for the election as aforesaid of a Go-
vernor a Lieutenant Governor and a Com-
missioner of the General Land Office of this
State.
The Chief Justices or County Commis-
sioners in cases wherein they are authoriz-
ed by law to discharge the duties of Chief
Justices of the several counties of the State
will promptly make duplicate returns of the
elections fur Governor and Lieutenant Go-
vernor carefully sealed up one-of which
shall be transmitted to the Seat of Govern-
ment and directed to the Speaker of the
House of Representatives endorsed "Elec-
tion returns of count' for Governor and
Lieutenant-Governor" and the other shall
be deposited in the office of the Clerk of the
County Court.

sioner of the General Land Office will in
like manner be made in duplicate separate-
ly carefully sealed up one of which will be
transmitted to the Seat ot Government and
directed to the Secretary of State endorsed
" Election returns of county for Com-
missioner of the General Land Office."
And Whereas by the said act it is also

the first and second Congressional District
for Representative in the Congress of the
United States.

the office of Clerk of the County Court.
And Whereas by An act of the Legisla-
ture approved February 11th 1850 it is re-
quired that an election for one Chief Justice
and two Associate Justices of the Supreme
Court be held throughout the State at the
next regular election previous to the expi-
ration of their respective terms of office and
whereas the respective terms of tins said
offices expire on 2d March 1852; therefore
I do hereby further order and direct that
the Chief Justices of the several counties
(and m case of a vacancy in the office of
Chief Justice or inability of that officer to
act then any two of the County Commis-
sioners) cause polls to be opened at the seve-
ral precincts of their respective counties on
the said first Monday (the fourth dav) of
August for the election aforesaid of one
Chief Justice and two Associate Justices of
the Supreme Court and due returns make
thereof in duplicate carefully sealed up one
of which shall be transmitted to the Seat of
Government directed to the Secretary of
State and endorsed " Election returns of
County for Chief Justice and Asso-
ciate Justices of the Supreme Court" and
the other deposited in thd office of the Clerk
of the County Court ; and
Whereas the terms of the offices of the
Judges of the second third and fourth Judi-
cial Districts of said State will expire in
the month of April 1852; and whereas the
Judges of the fifth and eleventh Judicial
Districts of said State have resigned their
said offices ; therefore by virtue of the
aforesaid act of the Legislature I do further
order and direct that the Chief Justices
(and in case of vacancy in the office of Chief
Justice or the inability of that officer to act
then any two of the countyCommissionet) of
the respective counties composing the se-
cond third fourth fifth and eleventh Judi-
cial Districts give due notice and cause pulls
to be opened as aforesaid on the first Mon-
day (the fourth day) of August next at the
several precincts ot their respective coun-
ties for the election of a District Judge for
the District to which the said counties may
respectively belong and returns promptly
make in duplicate carefully sealed up one
of which shall be transmitted to the Seat of
Government directed to the Secrerary of
State and endorsed "Election returns for
Judge of District" and the other de-
posiicd in the office of the Clerk of the
County Court.
And Whereas a vacancy exists in the of-
fice of District Attorney forthe eleventh
Judicial District I do hereby further order
and direct that the Chief Justices of the
several counties composing the said District
give due notice and cause polls to be opened
as aforesaid at the several precincts of theii
respective counties fur said office and make
due returns as above directed.
And Whereas the Legislature at its last
regular session did under thiTtequirements
of the constitution and according to the
census of the year 1 848 apportion the Sena-
tors and Representatives of the several Dis-
tricts and counties in this State :
Therefore I do hereby further order and
direct that the Chief Justices of the several
counties (and in case of vacancy in the of-
fice of Chief Justice or inability to act then
any two of the County Commissioners) give
due notice and cause polls to be opened as
aforesaid at the several precincts of their
respective counties for the election of Sena-
tors and Representative8 in the next State
Legislature as follows to wit :
