the horse
Hots or Grubs- With tin disease the horse
acts very much as if he had the cholic: wallow-
ing and looking around at bis side. But the prin-
cipal difference is he does not swell and perspire
as with the cholic until towards the last. With
these symptoms in the absence ol swelling you
m.iy rely upon its being the hot? in which case
a pint and a half ol sweet milk and molasses or
sugar poured down him will eive relief in
atiout nail an hour an active purgative will com
plete (he cure.
The Cholic not unfrequeiitly proves fatal to
the horse. A double-handful ol rue well bruised
and mixed in a quart of water and poured into him
is a certain i ure. This every one has or ought
to have in their garden. It is very simple but 1
used it for twelve years to the exclusion of every
tinny- else. Where the case is very bad thedrench
may bo rept ated.
Foot lil may be cured by pouring boiling tar or
tallow on it beiore it gets loo lar around the hoof.
This is a tolerably severe application but is a
sure one. J don't know ofany that is nujder that
will save the hoof. It then has to be cured of the
burn only.
The Swency may be removed before it gets
bad by frequent ruhings and bathings in spirit ol
turpentine. Hut after itrunsa while and the
horse 'becomes lame this is hardly sufficient
have then cured it by spitting the skin about two
inches where it adheres the tightest to the shoul-

In conjcquence of many of the most important
offices of the Government .being abolished by
Congress such a multiplicity of business now
devolves upon the Kxecutivc' that it is almost
impossible for him to appropriate any of his time
to the reception and entertainment of his friends.
We are decidedlv in favor of retrenchment but
we hold that when the government is deprived
of the number of ollicers requisite to carry on bu-
siness with system and dispatch thore is a moro
burdensome tax imposed upon the people than
Was necessary even to support the former prodi
gal administration. The-time-that is consum-
ed and tho expense that is incurred under the
present nrrangement by individuals who have
business with the government will prove a moro
prolific source of discontent among those who do
not reside in the immediate vicinity of the "enpi-
tol than the heaviest direct taxthat has ever
been levied.
