in July and one in Dr. G. W. Barnett's neighborhood in
Washington xorxnty commencing on Friday before the
1st Sabbath in August; and a camp meeting near Hunts-
ville Montgomery county commencing Thursday oefore
the 2ndJ3abbath7n October and Tuesday after the Colo-
siado presbytery of the Cumberland Prisbyterian Church
will convene at the same place.
The Texas .Synod of the above named Church will
meet on Friday before the 4th Sabbath in October next at
the camp ground 3 miles north of Nacogdoches in Nac-
ogdoches county".

PROSPECTUS OF THE GALVESTON
WEEKLY NEWS.
On Saturday the 6th of January noxt the publication of a
weekly paper will be commenced by the undersigned enti-
led The Galveston Weekly News devoted to Politics Lite-
'atuie Foreign and Domestic Intelligence Commercial Af-
airs and the General Newstf.the 'Day.
It will be published in conjunction with the Trj-Weekly
Evening New- under the manaeement of R. D. Sebring Editor.
whose entire attention shall be devoted to render the columns
of the Weekly News useful and interesting to every class of
readers. A marked degree of respect and attention shall at all
times be paid to the communications of experienced correspon-
dents (the valuable aid of a number ot which has .been already
secured) and every exertion used to adopt and pursue such a
course as shall be best calculated to redeem the commercial
character of our country to elevate the character of our na-
tional literature and to sustain the character oi our national
institutions.
In politics the News will be independent pledged to none
open to allj reserving to itself the right to piaise or censure the
measures of those who are in power or the pretentions of those
who may aspire to it jusl as they may be considered calcula-
ted to result in the good or evil of the country.
In relation lo the measures of the present administration it
is contended iht they have not been the best that could have
been adopted for the interest and welfare" of the country 'and
that those in powe'i have either through ignorance or willful-
ness trifled with the important trusts reposed in them by the
people. An earnest and unflinching support shall be given to
the claims ol justice of those who it is beleived have been ina-
licioiinly and 'deeply injured by ihe highhanded and unlawful
proceedings of thepresent Executive.
A prominent feature in ihe political principles of the News
will be the advocacy of the expedii ncy and uecessny of keep-
ing in repair and in a se.tvoiuy u u Jwion the vt--aeis of our
navy while the affairs ofthe countrv remain m therr present
unsettled condition. It has been satisiactorily demonstrated

om a navy we would be entirely at their mercy.
The Literary department ot ihe News s-hall n t be found in-
ferior to tha. ot any paper published Tn. the country; a prefer-
ence always beiug given lo original articles and-ihe best en-
deavors of its conductor used to cul'ivate a liberal taste for the
literary productions of our own authors.
A portion of each number will be devoted to the publication
of a carefully compiled summary of foieigu aud domestic news

Arrangements have already been made to ensure th receipt
of a correct and impartial record ol the proceeding of the ap-
proaching Congiess and from the nature of the subjects thet
will engage the atte tion of the honorable body will in all
probability bs ol ihe most important and vital interest.

its improvements its morals and rational amusements no ef-
forts shall be spared by its conductor to place the News on

News in appearanre equal and not inferior to any paper
