Nov. 13, in the Nelta Church of
Christ The prospective bride is the
granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Clifford Clark of Nelta and Mrs.
Thelma Stevens of Arbala. Friends
and relatives are invited to attend

ABSENTEE VOTING has sur-

passed the average number, Hop-
kins County Clerk Mary Attlesey
said. Absentee voters can cast bal-
lots at the courthouse for one more
full day — until 5 p.m. Friday. On
Tuesday, Attlesey said the polls will
be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. A
total of 789 voters have marked
their ballots as of Thursday morn-
ing, Attlesey said, adding that And
363 ballots have been mailed into
the office. Compared with the 1984
election when 612 voters cast ab-
sentee ballots, “We’re running real
far above the average,’’ she said.
SULPHUR SPRINGS school
classes will be dismissed one hour
ahead of schedule and buses will be
on their routes one hour ahead of
schedule Friday, so that the buses
can return and transport students to
the Hallsville football game.
MINISTERIAL ALLIANCE
Food Pantry served 235 families
last week. Volunteers from Shooks
Chapel United Methodist Church
distributed the food
JULIE DRUMMOND, a senior
at Juniata College in Pennsylvania,
has been elected coordinator of
Hospitatlity Ministers of the Juniata
College Catholic Council. She is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Char-
les Drummond of Sulphur Springs.
NINE 4-H members and three
adult leaders will travel to the
Texas 4-H Center to participate in
the 1988 Junior Leader Retreat
Nov. 18-20. Leadership skills and
getting along with others will be
the emphasis of the retreat.
SEN. PHIL Gramm has been
named the winner of the American
Security Council’s National
Security Leadership Award for
1988. The senator serves on the
Armed Services Committee and the
Defense Industry and Technology
Subcommittee.
TRUSTEES OF the Sulphur
Springs Independent SchoolDis-
trict Tuesday night approved the
employment of Diana Rogers,
computer lab aide at Douglas
School, and Shirley Thte, bus
driver. The approvals were given
following an executive session dur-
ing the school board’s regular meet-
ing.
COY VICARS will provide the
program for the Rotary Club
Thursday. He will talk about
employee relations.
The chib meets at noon in the
Woman’s Building.

Archie Beckham
Services for Archie Beckham,
72, of 201 Glover St. were held
Wednesday, Nov. 9, in Tapp Funer-
al Home Chapel with the Rev. Fred
Lewis officiating.
Burial was m Pleasant Grove
Cemetery with John E. Beckham,
Terry Beckham, John Logsdon,
Sherman Osbon, Riley Coffey,
Robert Carpenter, Terrance
Logsdon and Jeff Carpenter serving
as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers were Orren
Singleton, Houston Winnett,
Johnnie Locklear, Dr. Mike Lock-
lear, Jesse Simmons, Gordie Clapp,
Earl Clapp and members of the
Hudson Sunday School Class at
First Baptist Church.
Mr. Beckham died Tuesday, Nov.
7, in Hopkins County Memorial
Hospital.
He was bom Aug. 24, 1916, in
Hopkins County, the son of John
and Lucy Sheppard Beckham. He
married Fannie Lou Patman in Sul-
phur Springs Sept. 17, 1939. She
survives.
He was a retired cattleman, was
a member of First Baptist Church
and was a World War n U.S. Army
Air Corps veteran.
Other survivors include a
daughter, Patsy Beck of Sulphur
Springs; three brothers, Rilley A.
Beckham of Sulphur Springs,
Clyde Beckham of Plainview and
J.R. Beckham of Sulphur Springs;
three sisters, Nettie Lou Osbon of
Fort Worth, Kate Coffey of Sulphur
Springs and Grace Campbell of
Sulphur Springs; and one
grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a
sister, Mozell Logsdon.
Olive Mitchell
Services for Mrs. Olive Myrtle
Mitchell, 96, of 1200 N. Jackson
St. were held Wednesday in Tapp
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev.
Gaither Day officiating.
Burial was in Richland Cemetery
with members of the family serving
as pallbearers.
Mrs. Mitchell died Tuesday in
Hopkins County Memorial Hospi-
tal.
She was bom Oct. 27, 1891, in
Arkansas, the daughter of Jesse
Johnson and Annie Southard
Johnson. She married Claude
Henry Mitchell May 13, 1906, in
Rockston. He preceded her in death
in 1961.
She was a housewife and was a
member of the United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include three sons,
Charles Mitchell of Sulphur
Springs, Clarence Mitchell of Sul-
phur Springs and Bobby Mitchell
of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a
daughter, Annie Hancock of
Petaluma, Calif.; a sister, Mable
Billings of Eureka, Calif.; 17
grandchildren; 21 great-
grandchildren; and nine great-
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
four sons and one daughter.

Graveside services for Wylodine
Bullock King, 66, of Mountainair,
N.M., were held Nov. 3 in Black
Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Hub-
bell officiating.
Mrs. King died Sunday, Oct. 30,
in New Mexico.
She was bom July 13, 1922, in
Pickton to Lee and Arntnie Kcelin
Bullock.
Survivors include two sons,
Melvin King of Tijeras, N.M., and
Ed King of Mountainair, N.M.; a
brother, Morris Bullock of Pickton;
two sisters, Christine Gillem of
Sulphur Springs and Mevis Skinner
of Hughes Springs; and eight
grandchildren.

63, of Reilly Springs, were held
Sunday, Nov. 6, in Murray-Or-
wosky Funeral Home Chapel with
the Rev. Larry Baxley officiating.

He was bom March 26, 1925, in
Reilly Springs, a son of Johnny
Leroy Williams and Eula Mae Wil-
liams. He married Leathia Fayard
Nov. 28, 1966, in Reilly Springs.
She survives.
He was a self-employed dry wall
contractor.
Other survivors include two
sons, Robert Wayne Vance of
Emory and James Lee Williams of
Sulphur Springs; one daughter,
Margaret Ann Smith of Sulphur
Springs; four stepgrandchildren;
and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Mrs. Glee Hare
Services for Mrs. Glee Hare, 84,
of Dallas and formerly of Hopkins
County, were held Monday, Nov. 7,
in Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. Frank Yates
officiating.
Burial was in Sulphur Bluff
Cemetery with Othell Skidmore,
James K. Bassham, Oran Singleton,
Paul Moore, Billy Wayne Harry
and Bill Harry serving as
pallbearers.
Mrs. Hare died at 6:15 a.m. Sa-
turday, Nov. 5, in Four Seasons
Nursing Center in Dallas.
She was bom July 20, 1904, in
the Black Oak community in Hop-
kins County, a daughter of Thomas
C. and Laura M. Pickett Dodson.
She married William Pender Hare
Sept. 15, 1939, in Florida. He
preceded her in death in 1 % 1.
She was a former teacher at Sul-
phur Bluff School and a former
postal employee at Sulphur Bluff.
She retired as a long-time
employee of Walker-Harry Oil Co.
in Sulphur Springs.
She was a member of First Bap-
tist Church in Sulphur Springs and
was a former long-time member of
the Tanti Club. She had resided in
Dallas since 1980.
Survivors include two sisters,
Kate Vaughan of Dallas and Floy
Winkelmann of Brcnham; and two
brothers, Riley B. Dodson of Dallas
and Prentice Morrill Dodson of
Fort Worth.
Eugene Tiscornia
Eugene Tiscornia of Eureka,
Calif., died Oct. 24 in Eureka.
Funeral services and burial were
in Vallejo, Calif.
Mr. Tiscornia was the husband of
the former Patsy Glenn of Sulphur
Springs. The couple formerly
resided in Dallas before moving to
California.
Also surviving is a daughter,
Ashlie Tiscornia, of Eureka.
Charlie Adkins
Services for Charlie Adkins of
Los Angeles, Calif., and formerly
of Hopkins County, will be held at
10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at Good
Tiding Baptist Church in Los An-
geles.
Burial will be in Los Angeles.
Mr. Adkins died at 12:30 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 27, in a Los Angeles
hospital.
He was bom in Hopkins County,
a son of Matt and Willie Adkins.
He married Lavada Gasaway. She
survives.
He was a member of the Good
Tiding Baptist Church.
Other survivors include one
daughter, Sue Adkins of Los An-
geles; three sisters, Elosie Davis,
Ruby Lee Dinkins and Odessa
Hickman, all of Los Angeles. Local
survivors include one cousin, Lil-
lian Johnson of Sulphur Springs.

arrangements.

82, of 1408 Elmwood, were held
Saturday, Nov. 5, at First United
Methodist Church with the Revs.

She was bom Aug. 5, 1906, in
Wood Springs, the daughter of H.
and Eddie Johnson Lee.
She was a retired sales clerk and
a member of the First United
Methodist Church in Sulphur
Springs.
Survivors include two sisters,
Ruth Currin and Mildred Whit-
worth, both of Dallas; five
grandchildren; and nine great-
grandchildren.
Revival set Nov. 13-16
An “Alive in Christ” revival will
be conducted Nov. 13-16 at the
Fust Baptist Church in Sulphur
Springs, the evangelist will be Car-
los McLeod and with Fritz and
Shirley Smith serving as music
leaders.

at 6 p.m. The single adults are bav-
ins a fellowship after church at
8:15 p.m. Sunday. The children
have a hot dog supper at 6 p.m.
Tuesday and the youth will have a
“hoagie" sandwich eating contest
and supper at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
