Copperas Cove Hits
Bartlett For 48-6
Victory Friday
Goblins came dressed in blue
and gold and one day early for
the Bartlett Bulldogs on a fog-
gy Halloween eve here Friday
night as the Copperas Cove
Bulldogs ripped Bartlett 48-6. It
will be the last meeting of the
two clubs at least for a few
years as Cove moves up to
Class A.
Bartlett didn't pay as badly
a3 the score might indicate. The
tally was only 16-0 at" halftime
but Cove got away for 16 more
in the third and 16 in the fourth
to retain hopes for the district
25B crown.
Bartlett excitement was lim-
ited chiefly to two plays. Fol-
lowing the first score Adrian
Moore returned the kickoff 40
yards to the Cove 42. Early in
the fourth period Tommy Hill
hroke loose around left end cut
hack to the right and ran 48
yards for the only touchdown.
Other than that it was mostly
Cove.

They received the opening
kickoff and returned to the 32.
After four first downs Cove
bogged down on the 22 and
Bartlett took over. Copperas
Cove got the ball back though
on the Bartlett 45 and scorSd
two first downs later. Horst
Paul broke over right tackle and
ambled 18 yards. He then
pounded right guard to make it
8-0.
Moore returned the kick to
the Copperas Cove 42 but Bart-
let was forced to punt and Cove
returned to the 27 as the quar-
ter ended. They picked up a
first down before Butch Henry
intercepted a pass at the Bart-
lett 46.
Bartlett managed a first be-
fore kicking dead on the Cove
32. A 60 yard pass to Douglas
Goff gobbled up a first down to
the 12. Wayne Hummer swept
right end for the score. Gary
Chisolm pounded right tackle
to make it 16-0.
Darrell Messer returned the
kickoff to the 29 and Bartlett
picked up a first down before
lacking to the 33. As Cove tried
to move Moore recovered a fum-
ble qn the 31. Bartlett picked up
a first through a 15 yard pen-
alty but lost the ball on downs
on the 12. Seconds later the half
ended.
Tommy Hill returned the sec-j
ond half kickoff to the 24 and
the locals picked up a first be-
fore kicking to Cove on the 34.
Four first downs later Paul rip-
ped right guard for the score
and Chisolm hit the same spot
to make it 24-0.
Bartlett got the kickoff back
to the lb out had to Kick and
from the local 36 Cove moved
in to score. Paul an all-district
halfback hit left tackle cut to
the right and ran 34 yards. Gay-
le Sneed turned left end for a
32-0 lead.
Hill got the kickoff to the 28
but Bartlett kicked to the Cove
41. Bartlett held and Cove punt-
ed to Bobby Hill who returned
20 yards to mid-field. Tommy
Hill then hit left end cut back
and outraced three visitors to
the goal. An end run was no
.
good for the two points.
Hummtfr almrjfct got away on
the kickoff as ho returned to
the Bartlett 35. Cove picked up
two first downs before Paul
whipped right tackle for the
score. The same play netted the
two points to make it 40-6.
Bartlett returned to the 85
and picked up a first but tried
for a pass on fourth down. It
was incomplete and Cove took
over on their 45. Three first
downs and a 15 yard penalty
against the locals gave James
Fritz a chance to hammer in at
left guard. Goff went around
right end to produce the final
score of 48-G.
It was the same story then
kickoff punt and Cove began
to move again. They picked up
three first downs before the
clock caught them.
