second nnd final periods Friday
night to down the Bartlett Bull-
dogs 21 to 6.
Babe Starke led the devasta-
tion by scoring 19 points. He
took a pass from Redge Priest
for 29 yards for the first score;
hit center for six yards and the
second one; and then bucked
center from the two for the fin-
al touchdown and kicked the
point after.
Florence moved 56 yards for
the first score after a kick had
died on the 44; went 20 yards
after intercepting a Bulldog
pass; and drove 65 yards after
taking a punt. The Buffaloes
were aided by a 15 yard rough-
ing penalty on the final drive.
Florence also managed to get
to the Bulldog six yard lino in
the first uarter without scoring.
Bartlett never threatened in
the first period but got as close
as the Buff 19 and 10 yard
lines without scoring in the sec-
ond half.
Freddy Keller set up the
Bartlett counter when he recov-
ered a Buffalo fumble on their
six. It took Henry Zrubek two
plays to score. Donald Shelton
was caught shy of PAT yard-
age. Bartlett made more first
downs than the home team 11
to 10. The Bulldogs completed
three of ten passes for 19
yards. Florence completed one
of three for 29.
The Bulldogs intercepted ono
pass and Florence two. The
Bulldogs were penalized three
times for 25 yards and Florence
twice for 10.
Ronald Shelton and Tommy
Hill had Bartlett's longest gains
of 20 and 19 yards. Henry Zru-
bek was the most consistent
gainer of the night with his
slashes off tackle and through
the middle.
On defense Frank Rabel was
tought at his line backer spot.
Leaders for Florence were
Priest Stark and Tom Reavis.
Florence opened the game by
kicking to the Bulldogs. Bart-
lett punted back to the Buff
44 and it took them seven plays
to score.
The Buffs also recovered the
short kickoff and drove to the
Bulldog six before giving up the
ball on fourth down. Bartlett
picked up two first downs but
two penalties killed the drive
and they kicked to the Florence
39.
Florence lost the ball on the
Bulldog 40 on last down but
the Bulldogs gave it back on the
20 on an intercepted pass. It
took the Buffs five plays to
score. Roger Baker accounted
for the PAT around right end.
Bartlett picked up two first
downs after the kickoff but

44 as the half ended.

half kickoff on their 23 and

ence 19 before giving up tho
ball on fourth down. Two plays
later the Buffs fumbled arid
Bartlott recovered on the six.
Two more plays ate up the six
yards.
Florence got the kickoff back
to their 33 but on first down
Frank Rabel intercepted a pass
and returned it to tho 33. Bart
lett could only get nine yards on-
four plays and gave up the ball
on the Buff 24. A tremendous
quick kick rolled dead on tho
Bartlett 18. It was good for 57
yards.
Bartlett had to kick back to
the Florence 44. Florence pick
ed up three first downs with a
roughing penalty thrown in for
the final score of the game.
After that the ball see sawed
between the 30 yard lines with
the Buffaloes picking up one
first down and Bartlett three
on a late passing attack. The

ended the game.
Cotton Bowl
Hosts Undefeated
Teams Saturday
Texas vs. Oklahoma a mid-
season bowl game that often
has outdone anything Jan. 1
has offered will have its 53rd
renewal Saturday afternoon be
fore a sellout crowd in Dallas
spacious Cotton Bowl.
Long one of the nation's most
eye-catching sports attractions
this year's contest could be one
of the best ever. It will be
youthful Darrell Royal's second
opportunity to lead a team
against his old coach and alma
mater and fireworks have been
promised by both parties in-
volved. Royal who played for Okla-

homa when the Sooners beat
Texas in 1948 and 1949 has
made amazing strides in his re-
covery program at Texas and a
good showing against Okla
homa last year was one of the
biggest factors. The Longhorns
lost 21-7 in that game but not
until the final quarter was the
issue clearly decided. Texas
players seemed to gain confi-
dence from the meeting with
the Sooners so much in fact
that the Longhorns were sur-
prise runners-up in the South-
west Conference race and reci-
pients of a bowl invitation.
Oklahoma likewise went to a
bowl last year the third time
in five years .it has represented
the Big Seven in the Orange
Bowl. The Sooners could have
gone the other two years if
league rules had permitted for
Bud Wilkirson has only two
ties and no losses against his
record in 11 years of conference
coaching. His overall record is
109 victories nine losses and
three ties. Two of those losses
have been administered by Tex-
as teams but nine of the vic-
tories have also come against
the Longhorns.
Oddly because Texas did ex-
ceptionally well against OU be-
fore Wilkinson came to the In-
dian Country the Longhorns
lead in the 52-year-old series
with 30 victories to 2Q for OU.
Two contests ended in ties. The
Orange hasn't won since 1951
however.
Should the game be televised
for Austin and Dallas audiences
as seems possible it will be the
10th time in 11 years tho game
has been on live TV.

GOOD TELEPHONE MANNERS
Many people judge us by the way We talk with them
on the telephone. A lot of business can be lost by bad
telephone manners. Many times We are talking with people
that We have never seen or have never seen us threfore
We. should be courteous and sincere in our telephone con-
versations. The way We answer the phone the manner with
which We talk during the conversation and the way We
close the contact goes a long way toward helping or hurt-
ing our business. So let's make sure that we are helping
our business by using good telephone manners.
FOR HUSBANDS ONLY
I susneet finme w;ves will seak a peek at this simply
"because it savs "For Husbands Onlv." But just this once
I'd like to have a man-to-man talk with all husbands.
About this time of year halfway between sum-
mer vacations and Christmas things settle down and your
wife is probably doing a bit of dreaming. Maybe it's that
trip you've ahvavs planned to take or a new house or
even a sports car.
Dreaming' fine but it usuallv takes a lot of years
to make a big dream rome true. However little dreams
take less time. In fact iusr n minute or two.
So here's my hint for husbands. Order an extension
phone in color for the bedroom. I'll guarantee that it will
perk up your wife's morale like a new hairdo or a new hat.
Even better it will make a hero out of you.
Just call the telephone business office today. A
service representative will help you pick the right color.
IT'S REAL FAMILY FUN
4
Sunday is a real family day.
Many of us have our families around us and we
spend the day going to church relaxing" chatting just
doing things together.
However some people have members of their fam-
ilies living away from home either away at college s or
married sons or daughters living in another part of the
country.
There's really no reason to leave them out of the
happy Sunday get-togethers. Just pick up the telephone
and make a long distance call. That way Sunday is fun for
everyone in the family.
Why not this Sunday? You'll surprise the "out-of-towners"
and have a lot of fun on your end of the line too.
Call by number. Il'$ fwce at fatt.
