Football Practice
Begins Monday
By taking a look just north-
east of the high school building
it's easy to see that football
practice and the football seasor
is just around the corner. The
sprinkler systems are going full
tilt the grass has turned1 a
beautiful green and the mowers
ire .busy at intervals on the 50
by 120 yard plot of ground
where Bulldog football squads
for years have done battle.
Half of Bartlett's ten games
will be played at home and three
of the encounters will be district
contests. Bartlett fans will be
treated at home to the two
games which Bartlett usually
likes to win 'best the Holland
and Granger games. The other
games to be enjoyed at home are
ones in which Thorndale Troy
and Academy will compete for
honors against the Bulldogs.
Football practice will begin;
(note this) on Labor Day Sept.
1 and as all men and boys who
have ever competed in and train-
ed for football will tell you the
day has been appropriately
selected. Coach Ralph Poteet
former Stevenville and South-
western U. football star knows
the benefit a squad receives
from being in ocndition and we
promise you these '52 versions
of the Bartlett Bulldogs will be
getting their pants Avorked off
from Monday until the fall sea
City Assures
Water Plentiful
Water consumption in Bart
lett nas teen at its summer
peak of 200000 gallons per day
for over three weeks accord
ing to records of Ed Adams at
the city plant.
It is not too unusual to reach
this consumption rate during
the month of August Mr.
Adams states but it is a little
bit unusual for it to continue
day after day. Normal consump-
tion during cooler periods of
the year is 100000 gallons and it
has dropped as law as 75000
during cold wet weather.
One of the city wells has been
supplying all of the city water
since the denomination plant
has been in operation but the
city is hastening to improve the
second one in case it is needed.
The pump on the well is in op
eration 18 to 20 hours each day
at present to keep up the flow.
Water bearings are being
"laced in the city's old well this
"eek and intake pipes are being
lowered forty feet to assure a
continued supply of water. The
present bearing are an oil type
which leak oil into the water and
