Education Association Says 12 Percent
Of Nation's Teachers Unlit To Teach
(By l ull ted Press)
One out of every eight teach-
ers or 12S4 per cent, is unfit for
teaching, according to a report
from the National Education As-
sociation released this morning.
Aroused America is suddenly
beginning to realize that the chil-
dren of the country are suffer-
ing as a result of the neglected
school system Hundreds of
thousands of children are not
getting the education t h e y
should just because the voters
don't think that better sehoi is
arc worth while, the report said.
The Educational Association
announces it plans to wage an
unceasing war to improve the
lot of the public school teacher,
whose "average salary is $(>00 per
year less than the lowest paid
professional workers in the gov-
ernment.”
More than a third of the good
teachers left the school room
during the war and many of
them will never be back, NEA
said.
The schools have lieeti running
downhill for the past ten years
and nobody seemed to notice it
at first. School houses just ap-
peared a little old-fashioned and
teachers a little underpaid, Imt

Leroy Grimsdall Gray, four-
weeks-old son of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Gray, 700 East Avenue
B, has quite a few "firsts” to his I
nume.
For one thing, lie is probably
the. first young man to become
a Lion at so early an age. He
was made an honorary Lion at
Tuesday’s meeting of the club.
For another, he is the first
child to lie born in Nolan county
to a war-bride and her Army vet-
eran husband; and Ids mother,
English-born former Peggy
Grlnsdall was the first war-bride
to arrive in Nolan county, and
the first to apply for American
citizenship.
Mrs. Gray met her husband-to-
be when he was stationed near
her home in Mulgale. England.
Their wedding took place dur-
ing tlie Victory Day celebrations,
May it). 1910. Mrs.- Gray left
England on January 29, 101(1,
ami arrived here February 10.
She appeared before the Lions
club on a special program not
long ago. and made such a Idt
with the Lions, that when Leroy
