from the hand and heart of l)eacon Ruth Hodge]The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I
fear? The lord is the strength ofjmy life, of whom shall I
be afraid?.-Psahn 27:1
Ruth Bolton Hodge was born on December 8,

received her high school diploma from Center High
School. Upon graduation, Ruth furthered her
education at Prairie View AM' University where she

Literary Science in 1950. Ruth continued her
academic pursuits throughout the years, earning
credits towards her Masters degree at Our Lady of
the Lake University. Afler college, Ruth returned to
Center, Texas and worked as the City Librarian for
several years. She later relocated to San Antonio,
Texas and was employed as a civil servant at
Lackland AFB as their Stall Librarian. In 1990,
Ruth retired after 25 years of dedicated service.
Throughout Ruth's tenure at Lackland, she
received numerous distinguished service awards
and citations of excellence.
And they said, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and
thou shalt be saved, and thy house. -- Acts 16:31
On June 5, 1953, Ruth was joined in Holy
Matrimony to her spiritual soul mate and college
sweetheart, Deacon Willie Alexander Hodge II and
to this union three sons were born, Willie
Alexander Hodge III, James Benson Hodge and
Charles Harrison Hodge who preceded her in
death at fifteen months old. Ruth and Willie
(fondly known as Sonny) settled in San Antonio
where they had a blessed and prosperous union
that spanned over 44 years. Ruth was a devout
Christian wife, homemaker, a loving mother,
daughter, sister and friend. Knowing Ruth was
knowing a child of God and oh how she loved her
family. Ruth took joy in relating wonderful
anecdotes and keeping everyone up to date on her
boys from their athletic careers, school days,
professional endeavors, and family news.
And ye shall seek mre, and find me, wnshen ye shall search
for me with all your heart. -Jeremiah 29:13
Ruth came to accept Jesus Christ as her Lord
and Savior at a tender age (at the Church of Godand Christ in Center, Texas). Her Christian
journey lead Ruth to a ministry of giving, teaching,
and sharing, as well as clothing, feeding and
sheltering those in need. She touched lives of all
ages and from all walks of life. Her work was both
in her church and in her community. A life time
adult member of the Greater Corinth Baptist
Church, Ruth served in a number of Christian
duties. From church librarian, Sunday school
teacher, hot meals volunteer, to lay minister and
deacon, Ruth was a committed servant of God. A
love for music led Ruth to learn to play the piano
and soon became the church's Sunday school
organist and pianist. Every Saturday morning, the
Hodge home was filled with gospel music as Ruth
faithfully practiced for Sunday morning services,
As a foster parent, Ruth opened her Christian
home to abused and abandoned children. So many
lives were touched by her Christian charity as she
let god use her as a blessing to others.
"... if you have faith as small as a mustard seed..
nothing will le impossible for you." - Alatthew I 7:20
Ruth's belief in Jesus, her faith, her love, her
prayers and her Christian walk are her legacy to
us. She believed in education, experience, explore,
expand, expect and achieve! To Ruth the task
ahead of you is never as great as the power behind
you. This was Ruth's Legacy.
May the Lord watch between you and me when we are
absent one ,from the other. Genesis 31:49

Willie Alexander Hodge Il, her sons, Willie
Alexander Hodge Ill of Arlington, Texas, and
