LIFE'S JOURNEY
Brother Calvin Johnson was born on September 10, 1927, to the late
Ollie and Richard Johnson in Bucyrus, Ohio. Calvin was one of seven
children. Three brothers and one son preceded him in death. Brother
Johnson attended schools in the Ohio Independent School District,
and graduated from Crestline High School in 1947.
Brother Johnson was a strong soldier willing to serve and protect his
country. He joined the United States Army in 1950, and retired in 1977
as a Sergeant First Class. After moving to San Antonio, he attended St.
Philip's College, where he received his degree in Radiology Sciences.
He was later employed as a Radiology Technician at the Veteran's
Hospital of San Antonio, and retired in 1990. During his tenure,
Brother Johnson received many awards, certificates, and honors. He
remained active even after retiring, by working as a mechanic,
entrepreneur, collector, and marketing manager.
Brother Johnson desired a closer walk with our Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ. He sought The Lord and he heard His cry. Brother Johnson
was baptized in Jesus' Name and filled with the Holy Ghost at the
Faith Temple Church under the leadership of the Late Bishop Horace
Young. He dearly loved his church, and served diligently and
faithfully in any capacity, until his health began to fail.
Brother Calvin Johnson met a wonderful Christian woman, Elevia,
who totally changed his life. The two were united in Holy Matrimony
on February 6, 1991. They traveled together, prayed together, and
loved their Almighty God. He was an excellent Husband, Father,
Grandfather, Friend, Confidant, Mentor, and Peacemaker. His delight
was loving and nurturing his family, and extended family. To know
him was to love him. He was WONDERFUL!
Brother Calvin Johnson leaves to cherish his memories a lovely wife,
Elevia; daughter, Linda Eggleston (Jon)- Pflugerville, TX; sons Johnny
Hurd (Pat)- Virginia; Patrick Hurd (Michelle); brother John Johnson-
Ohio; sister Teresa Brown- Ohio; two god-son's Henry H. Batson, III
and Eddie W. Wallace; fifteen grandchildren and a host of great
grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
