The Far East disasters added
fuel to the smouldering fire of dis-
content and suddenly this ire has
burst into flame Students of
history have foreseen the in-
evitable end They look for the
worst but out of scenes of car-
nage fearful bloodshed and revo-
lution better conditions will sure-
ly come There is no longer
room in all the world for such
governments as that of Russia
A GOOD TIP
Mr Sam H Dixon who is in
the city to attend the meeting of
the State Truck and Fruit Grow-
ers Association tomorrow says
he will begin a movement to or-
ganize a Fruit Carnival associa-
tion to hold annual exhibits at
some suitable place
This is a good tip to Palestine
one worth taking hold of Hous-
ton has already put in her claim
for the enterprise but as it is to
be a fruit show it should have a
home in one of the fruit towns
and no place is better located for
such an enterprise than is Pales-
tine
Tho small fruit fairs held here-
in the past have done a great deal
to present our resources and ad-
vantages to the fruit and truck
growers and have brought direct
results The Fruit Palace at Ty-
ler tho idea of which the writer
at that time a resident of Tyler
originated and agitated was the
beginning of tho big fruit indus-
try in that section and its benefits
arc still multiplying though the
enterprise itself has been aban-
doned
Palestine business men could
not devote themselves to any bet-
ter undertaking than to get in
touch with Mr Dixon find out
what his plan is and go after the
Fruit Carnival
Got busy
Russia will likely have trouble
enough at homo for awhile and it
is predicted the Japanese war will
soon terminate

PALESTINE TEXAS JANUARY 24 1905
THE CRISIS IS AT HAND
Judging from the events now
transpiring the crisis in Russia is
at hand Those people who for
centuries have been ground to the
earth by the heel of despotism
like the savage beast at bay have
turned to show their teeth and
have thrown a challenge to that
autocratic military power that
means revolution There is
scarcely a possibility of avoiding
a reign of terror now Innocent
blood has been spilled The
clamor of the people to be heard
by the czar has been met by a
volley of shot and shell The
mob withdraws leaving the place
covered with dead while the
wounded breathing threats of re-
venge left trails of crimson blood
in the snow
And who is to blame A des
potic government that has centu-
ries of crime charged against it
that has ruled by force and mil
itary display a people who have
grown to hate all in author-
ity For some years past the au
dible rumblings of this outburst
have been heard and in an effort
to prevent the inevitable the cor
don has been drawn closer the
heel of oppression has pressed
harder and greater show of mili
tary force has been made to fur-
ther terrorize the subjects of this
disgracefulimd disgraced govern
Time is flying Have 3011 paid
your poll tax
Tomorrow Palestine will have
as her guests the members of the
State Truck Growers Associa-
tion We appeal to our business-
people to come forward meet
these progressive men and give
them the glad hand and a cordial
welcome These men arc the ad
vance guard of prosperity in East
Texas
The revolutionary develop-
ments in Russia give renewed and
keen interest to the IIkhalds se-
rial story now running The
Sowers This story truly depicts
the causes leading up to these
revolutionary scenes and it you
arc not reading the story you arc
missing ararc literary treat and
some points concerning liussian
history that will better enable you
to understand the awful condi-
tions of that country ruled by
great show of military power ex-
treme despotism and by keeping
the populace subjected to abso-
lute dependence and ignorance

Dear Herald We arehaving

With other kinds as we go
along One day the sun comes
out so brighly the thrifty house-
wife calls tho old mans attention
to the fact that the garden should
be prepared but before he has
the time to commit an overt act
in the direction of such prepara-

looking after a hog claim If
they were wild hogs we know he

time yet The writer quit the
wild hog business a long time ago
as he thought he was getting too
close to the grave to be dealing in
that kind of stock
Our old friend Andy Kopcr
had the misfortune to cub his
knee quite badly a few days ago
with a broadax which he was us-
ing requiring several stitches to
close it up We are pleased to
learn he is doinjr well
