Knows Nothing of Conference
Washington June 27 No informa-
tion has been received at the White
House of the intention of Governor
Hughes and Colonel Roosevelt to ask
the president to participate in a con-
ference in Massachusetts during the
week upon political conditions in New
Yoik and their remedy If such a
conference is to be held on AVednes
day or Thursday at Beverly the de-
tails have not yet been arranged It
is known at the White House that
Col Roosevelt is to be at the Har
vard commencement and in the vicin
lty of Deverly Whether or not he
will see President Taft is not known
The president who has been getting
up at 5 oclock and working well Into
the night during the last days of con
gress is going to have a rest The
first two weeks of his stay in Beverly
will be as free from office cares as
thoes of a man in his position can be
Any local committee desiring to hold
a picnic on the lawn of his summer
cottage or invite him to attend a
meeting of the county grange will
either send its suggestions in writing
or be turned away
Getting up at 5 oclock is not a
fairy tale about the president either
He lias been doing it lately and if an
oath is required to make the storj
believed it can be obtained from a
stenographer who has been getting up
to greet the president and take his
dictation at that hour

DEADLOCK IS STILL OH

In the Browne Case at Chicago
No Hope of Conviction
Herald SpeclaL
Chicago June 28 The deadlock of
the jury in the Lee ONeil Browne
case remains unbroken and a new
Illinois record for length of delibera
tion was set at 10 oclock this morn
ning when the jury had been out
ninety hours The previous record
was eightytwo hours in the Cronin
murder case There seems to be but
a slim hope for a conviction now
At noon Judge McSurley delivered
further instructions to the jory al-
though the defense protested declar-
ing there ought to be no mistrial
Wall Street Depressed
New York June 27 The stock
market developed a weak tone today
and the explanation was not obvious
Rumors were circulated early that J
P Morgan had died suddenly or was
seriously ill bdt the appearance of
Mr Morgan at his office caused it to
be assumed that bear activities were
responsible for the downward course
of prices This assumption was weak
ened when the fall in prices was re-
newed with even greater violence
The active trading stocks were 24
points lower than the close of Satur
day by the middle of the afternoon
The unexplained weakness gave rise
to a feeling of dread that some bad
news was hovering over the market
The selling was actively renewed
from time to time during the after
noon and the last prices were the low-
est of the day
Corral Not Secure
Cananea Sonora June 27 The re
electionists scored a big vote here
yesterday but were defeated In
Ronquilli the vote was 304 for the
government and 90 for the antire
electionists and at Mesa the vote was
262 to 1CI
It is now said that the antire
clectionists have scored many elect-
ors and that thej will be able to dic-
tate the vice president by dropping
their opposition to President Diaz
