FATHER TO THE WISH
Johnson and Poindexter who are
presumed to love the cause they advo-
cate more than selfadvancement are
slow about showing their love As a
the prohibitionists are
cause those are the best sections of
Texas but is the direct result of per
sistent boosting on the part of those
people In South Texas many big con
cerns have organized into coloniza
tion companies and are sending litera
ture into the north and other sections
inviting people to come and the re-
sults are manifest There is no sec
tion of Southern Texas that can offer
better inducements to homeseekers
than can East Texas and yet the de-
mand for East Texas lands is not
what it should be When East Texas
people get together and inaugurate
an advertising campaign telling of
the wonderful things possible here we
may expect to see a great movement
this way The East Texas Industrial
Congress organized in Nacogdoches
recently is the proper channel to u >
for this work And the time to gef
busy is right now while people are
coming to Texas
THE CASE OF MR BALLINGER
President Tafts secretary of the in-
terior has been under fire almost from
the beginning of his administration of
that department of the government
service and there is something almost
pathetic in the attitude of this cabinet
officer something almost heroic in
the presidents faith in and loyalty to
him under great stress
No one seriously believes that Pres-
ident Taft is consciously harboring in
his cabinet a man unworthy to be
there in defiance of public sentiment
It is inconceivable that even exag-
gerated stubborness and recklessness
of results would cause him to continue
in office a man in whom he had lost
confidence
Perhaps if Mr Ballinge ild have
left the cabinet gracefulJ e

As the Herald has remarked
about the four thousandth time the
greatest need of this city to place 4t
on an assured prosperous and perma-
nent basis is some five or six hun-
dred upto date farmers to till the
idle lands of the county This work
should seriously engage the attention
of this people for the next year on
two or such time until we have the
right kind of farming population we
have the people here who are
able to inaugurate a
