smoke has settled over this section for
the past four days
The condition is beyond endurance
and intense suffering prevails
The pine woods adjacent to this city
have been on fire for the past week
along the lino of the Louisiana Arkan-
sas and Texas railroad where the
pineries are thickest Intercourse is
practically suspended by fire and
smoke
Two deaths are reported from that
locality by suffocation
Carthago Texas Nov 23 Forest
fires near hero are still raging and
many farmers have lost fences
Unless there be a rain soon consid-
erable losses will be sustained
The smoke is still so dense here as
to completely hide the sun
Tyler Texas Nov 23 The smoke
from the big forest fires in East Texas
is floating over Smith county The
smoke is almost to the ground in
streets and is easily perceptile yet if
causes no inconvenience
Jacksonville Texas Nov 23 The
dense smoke which has enveloped
this section for several days caused
by the woodland fires extending all
the way from here to Beaumont is a
source of much inconvenience and
discomfiture and shows no sign of
abatement The only damage in this
county is to young timber and the de
