neighboring States. His father, William Philip
Hudgins (now of San Antonio, Texas), is a graduate
of Bethany College and of the University of
Virginia, and while a young Sergeant in the Fortieth
Virginia Volunteers, was seriously wounded at
Gaines' Mill, in 1862. He moved his family to
Texas in 1865, and settled at Marshall, in Harrison
County, where the subject of this sketch was
reared.
Mr. W. T. Hudgins became a telegraph operator
in 1873, and held a lucrative position with the
