Matthews Family and Lambshead Ranch

Lambshead Ranch, one of Texas' most historic cattle ranches, is still owned and operated by the direct descendants of Judge J.A. and Sallie Reynolds Matthews. The Reynolds and Matthews families were pioneer ranchers and trail drivers who arrived in East Texas in the 1850s.

Notes

Identifier on the back of the photograph is MLCC_c1981_0019MLCC. Writer/photographer Laura Wilson was famed photographer Richard Avedon's scout for subjects for his book, The West. She brought him to Lambshead where he made a series of photos of Watt Matthews and other family and cowboys. Laura Wilson is the author of Watt Matthews of Lambshead.
