Post 23 hosted a Memorial
Day Ceremony at Roselawn
Cemetery in
Seagoville. Presenta-
tion of the colors was done
by the Seagoville ROTC.

area residents had to take cov-
er as a line of severe thunder-
storms containing hail and the
possibility of tornadoes ripped
through the area. Some hail
damage was done to windows,
cars and roofs but no official
tornado touched down in the
immediate area. The storms
also resulted in power outages
at Crandall ISD causing class-
es to be delayed the following
morning.

BALCH SPRINGS - When
most people hear the word
“doll” they think of a baby doll
in a pink dress, a Barbie doll in
the latest fashion, or a Dora the
Explorer doll ready for a back-
yard adventure. However, just
as the real world includes males
and females, the world of dolls
includes boys and men. “Male
Dolls: Past and Present” at the
Balch Springs Library/Learning
Center presents a collection of
children’s play dolls made from
1960 to the present.
Whether made of plastic or
cloth, male dolls add an extra
dimension to children’s play.
Some dolls like the cloth Joe
doll from Blue’s Clues were only
made a year or two, but others
like Mattel’s Ken doll have been
made ever since their introduc-
tion. This year marks the 50th
anniversary of the Ken doll. Al-
though his face, hair, and body
shape have changed many times,
he is still Barbie’s boyfriend.
The dolls on exhibit are
from the collection of Marilyn
Kosanke, a doll collector and
historian. She has been a mem-
ber of the United Federation of
Doll Clubs for 30 years and has
authored several articles pub-
lished in doll periodicals and
convention programs.
