AIDS agencies in county to benefit
from '92 supplemental CARE grant

Dallas County agencies will receive $1.8 million
from a federal AIDS grant, more than four times the
amount the county received from the same grant last
year, federal authorities confirmed this week.
Dallas County officials were notifed on Monday
that the county will receive the funds as part of a
supplemental disbursement from the Ryan White CARE
LOCAL
grant, a program passed by Congress in 1990 which
funnels federal AIDS money to areas hard-hit by the
epidemic.
During the first round of funding awarded last
year, Dallas County’s proposal was ranked last out of
16 proposals being considered. In 1991, Dallas County
agencies received $400,000 in Ryan White funds.
Leaders of the three main AIDS agencies based in
the gay and lesbian community — who had criticized
the process which led to last year’s grant application —
said the strong increase in funding was a signal that

softball in Dallas gets underway Sunday,
April 5 with both the Pegasus Softball
Association (men) and the North Texas
SPORTS
Women's Sports Association holding
games and opening day ceremonies.
Spokespersons for both leagues say that
some changes have been made from
previous years, changes which are
designed to increase competition in the
leagues.

For PSA, games begin Sunday at 9
a.m. and opening ceremonies are set to
begin at 1 p.m. “We’re playing a full
round-robin schedule on Sunday, and
we should have four games completed
by 1 p.m., and then we have four games
