A. We were organized for the sole purpose, and it states in the
prospectus of disposing the salt water. Our name is The
East Texas Salt Water Disposal Company.
Q. As an incidental activity, there is a slight amount of pressure
reinjected that would not be there?
A, That's correct.
Q. That was not the basic purpose you were organized for?
A. It was not. ... You see, water and oil are both fluids, and
they are moving around down under there:, so takng out a
barrel of water has the same, effect as taking out a barrel
of oil, so if you have 400,000 barrels of water a day coming
out, and 300,000 barrels of oil, then you are taking out of
that reservoir 600,000 barrels of fluid that tended to cause
this pressure decline. Now if you can rub out that 400,000
barrels of water, your withdrawal from the reservoir is
only 200,000 barrels and instead of taking out 600,000 barrels
of fluid, you could take out 600,000 barrels of oil with the
same effect on the bottom hole pressure... There are approximately
the same number of pumping wells in this field today
as there were ten years ago, so it has saved the tremendous
cost of pumping the oil to the surface instead of flowing it.
The watershed is free of contamination and pollution. The
Fish, Game and Oyster Commission men say that the field
is in better shape than it was ever in its lifetime, they are
catching fish in these streams right in the oil field again,
the rice farmers down on the coast are not complaining because
the water from the rivers are contaminated, and in
addition to all of that, the technicians, including the Railroad
Commission itself, says that the return of this water to the
reservoir is going to increase the ultimate recovery from
this reservoir of something over 600 million barrels of oil
that wouldn't have otherwise been recovered. Now, gentlemen,
a big major oil field is a hundred million barrels. The new
Fairway Field up there close to Tyler is estimated to have
a hundred million barrels of oil. It is a major discovery. And
here this one field is saving 600 million barrels of additional
oil by the salt water disposal project at no additional expense
to the industry. The salt water disposal project is equivalent to
at least six major oil fields, major discoveries, with all the expense
attendant thereto. And then to have some gentlemen here
tell this Committee that the salt water disposal project is hurting
that field, he just doesn't know what he is talking about,
Mr. Wilson: All right, on that score, I anticipate that gentleman will
testify further in this regard and that story is going to be told
over and over again. It will be presented to several grand
