22nd day of January, 1918, at whioh
election the following proposition shall
be submitted:
Shall the Board of Commissioners
of the City Of Orange be authorized
to issue the bonds of said City in the
sum of One Hundred Thousand $100,-
000,00) Dollars, payable -in 40 years
after date, with option of redeeming
same at any time after 20 years from
date, bearing interest at the rate of 5
per cent per annum, and to levy a tax
sufficient to pay the interest on said
bonds aud create a sinking fund suf-
ficient to redeem them at maturity,
for the purpose of building, construct-
ing and equipping the Public Free
Schools.
Said election shall be bold at the
City Hall, and the following named
persons arc hereby appointed mana-
gers of said election, to-wit: J. E.
Smith, Presiding Judge; H. H. Wat-
son, Assistant Judge; Fritz Cjualmao
and Harry Watts, Clerks.
Said election shall be held under
the provisions of Chapter 149, Acts of
the Twenty-Sixth Legislature, Laws
1899, and only qualified voters, who
are property tax-payers of said City,
shall be allowed to vote, and all vo-
ters desiring to support the proposi-
tion to issue' bonds, shall have printed
on their ballots the words 4‘For the
Issuance of Bonds for the Public
Schools, ’ ’ and those opposed shall
have printed on their ballots, ‘ ‘ Against
the Issuance of Bonds for the Public
Schools. ’ ’
The manner of holding said elec-
tion shall be governed by the laws of
the State regulating general elections.

n the stale prison at Wethersfield,;
showed their patriotism in the recent
Jed Cross campaign when 208 'Out of
>13 of them paid their dollars for
.membership. This was recorded at a
meeting of the Prison Board.
Italian inmates contributed $228 for
he Dalian War Relief Fund and the
fevvish inmates $103 for a like fund.
Ail these contributions were made
from the ylSers ’ prison earnings.

Mr. Douglas, residing in West Or-
ange, just outside of - the city liiuists,
lost his hyuso and its contents by fire
rbout 1:30 today. The' ^residents of
his vicinity called the Orange fire de-
partment and asked them to com© out

located . outside of the city limits the
firemen could not respond tp tbe call
except upon tho order of tbe mayor.
Mayor Hewson was located and con-
sented for the chemical engine to be
taken to the scene of the conflagration,
but when it arrived the house had
been totally consumed. Tho Orange
department would have beeu glad to
have goffe to the assistance of the
i people ia that community, but for tho
fact ttfst it would have left the peo-
ple of Orange without any Jirotoction
