Troop Heading
North To Camp
This is a log: from one of
the boys heading: for Camp
rhilmont, from troop 606,
Bellaire Presbyterian Church.
By RICHARD LEONG
6/19/59
Explorer Post 606, Friday
day afternoon at 4:40 began
one of the most exciting and
adventurous trips ever offered
to an Explorer.
For half a year the post had
planned this never-to-be-for-
gotten excursion to Philmont
Scout Ranch near Cimmarron,
New Mexico.
Now their dreams had come
true.
From Houston the Post took
a three hour and 10 minute
drive to Bastrop State Park

Demonstration
Club Meets Juli/ 2
The Bellaire Home Demon-
stration Club will hold its reg-
ular monthly meeting at the
home of Mrs. H. A. Chun, 5815
Holly, with Mrs. H Z. Kelly
assisting, on Thursday, July 2,
at 10 a.m.
A demonstration on nutritive
value and proper methods of
cleaning and storage of sea-
foods will be given by Mrs.
W. J. Shard, Jr., and Mrs. R. S.
Giles.
where we were to camp for
the night. Upon reaching the
park we took a refreshing hour
swim in a large outdoor pool
Then driving deep into the
park, we camped out under the
stars. Because of the excite-
ment none of us got much
sleep.
6/20/59
The weather was cool when
we started from Bastrop State
Park at 5:30 a.m. Most of the
boys slept all morning in the
cars.
As the morning wore on the
temperature rapidly rose.
By lunch time we all were
ready for a rest. We stopped
in Abilene for lunch in a bowl-
ing alley snack bar. At 2:30
we arrived in Sweetwater,
where we stayed for 30 minutes
for two boys to get a hair cut.
All day we had been passing
beautiful hills, but at 4:00 we
entered the plain region. The
air was cool compared to the
hills. At 6:30 p.m. we entered
Reese Air Force Base and found
our barracks. After making our
bunks we went to the service
club where we ate and' played
games. We hit the sack at 10:00
pm.
