Political Slander.
Those misguided gentleman
who will circulate political slan
der to defeat a man for office are
liars, cowards and poltroons.
They are as wicked as an assas-
sin or a train robber. Yet there
are those in Williamson county
very few it is true who are cir-
culating slanders when the insti-
gator has already acknowledged
over his own signature that he is
a slanderer. No just and upright
man will circulte political slander.
Georgetown Commercial.
The Democratic Executive
Committee of Williamson county
has brderod an election to be
held on the tenth of May to de-
termine whether the majority or
the plurality rule shall govern.
The form of ballot will be :
For Plurality Rule.
For Majority Rule.
If the plurality rule is adopted
the candidate who receives tho
largest number of votes will re
ceive tho nomination. If tho
majority rule is adopted
tho candidate to bo nominated
must recei vo more votes than all
the other candidates, for the
same office combined.
The Tribune does not think
the democratic party noeds re-
organizing, as advocated by some
aspirants for political honors, but
it does agree that tho party
needs a good house -cleaning
getting rid of all scum. It would
result in the overthrow of bolt -ers
and their followers.
The Tribune regards it as one
of its duties to express its opin-
ion on matters of publio interest,
but cheerfully accords the same
privilege to every other paper
and citizen. Indeed, a free and
frank expression m views and
expression of views and opinions
is the very foundation of our gov-
ernment. Tho paper or citizen
who stifles his opinions or sup
presses his views at tho bohost or
throat of another' is hardly on-
tilled to thp privilere of voting,

The Originators
There is a good deal of activity
in an effort to organize Texas
fire insurance companies for Tex-
as citizens. Last year the peo-
ple of Texas paid out for fire in-
surance over. 4,000,000 of dollars
mainly to foreign companies, and
received back in payment for
losses by fire something over S2,-
000,000, thus sending out of tho
Stale annually two millions of
dollars never to return. It does
seem that Texas ought to have
men and capital sufficient to or-
ganizp companies that could pro-
vent this drain from the State
and reap tho profits for its own
citizens. And while ftn the sub-
ject why not organize life insur-
ance companies? But the com-
panies must have men at the
head and money in tho vaults to
inspire confidence. Most Texas
people are too shrewd to put thoir
premiums into little wot woath-
or, mushroom concerns, that gen-
erally ''die a bornin'."
Hon. James H. Faubion, who
will represent this district in tho
next state senate, was in tho city
yestorday greeting his many
friends. Taylor Texan.
Any oitizen of tho district can
go into the Senate Chamber du-
ring its next session and in a
sense represent the districts an
individual. In that sense tho
Texan speaks truly. But if it
means that Mr, Faubion will rep
resent the district at the behest
of a majority of the votes ofWil-
liamBon county. The woods are
full of people who don't be-
lieve the state mont, Of course
the Tribune don't know much
about tho combinations of inde-
pendents, goldbugs and re
publicans that may be formed in
Travis, but it does not believe
that any combination can bo
formed that will elect Mr. Fau
bion.

Does the Texan state tho fore-
going as a fact? Or is it trying
to play the boogerman racket on
President Rouse, manifesting

with the "Link Lino" and who

Setter try something else broth-
er; you will hardly frighten Mr.
Rouso into hauling the heavy
north Texas business to "Taylor
and thoro dividing up with tho I.
& G.N. for- Austin, San Antonio
etc. You will have to get stron-
ger motive than that mentioned
to induce the Katy to ignqro good
territory and simply parallel tho
G. N. from Taylor to Austin etc.
Taylor tried the boom gamo once
and lost. Bettor buckle down to
good old fashioned homo-work
and not speculate on wild cat
prospect.
. Tho Thorndale Thorn seems to
have use for a good many thorns.
It aroused a small boycott by its
course in distributing subscrip-
tions for a church building in its
town, and says:
"We must royengo the spitoful
boycott and what wo say and do
is only intended for tho few indi-
viduals whp are trying to injuro
us."
This appears to be a good op-
portunity for hoaping coals,
soripturalt of fire on thoir heads.
Better try it, Bro. Ramsey, A
little town divided into warring
factions is a pitiable object.
