created a new county of Texas,
this new county bears the name
of Hudspeth, being named for
Senator Hudspeth, who intro-

of a portion of El Paso county,
cut off by a line running north
and south through Fort Han-

A Splendid Affair.
The "Old Fashioned Quarterly
Meeting" announced for the
First Methodist church last week
proved to be one of the best oc-
casions enjoyed by that congre-
gation for some time, The social
event with which it opened last
Friday evening "had been care
fully planned, and every feature
was a real delight and fully en-
joyed by all, The occasion of-
fered an excellent opportunity
for the Presiding Elder to meet
a large portion of the eutire
membership of the' church. Af-
ter enjoying the numbers on the
programme, the entire company
went into the basement of the
church where refreshments were
served, and the young and old
spent an hour, or two in a social
"get-together" chat and gener-
al good time.
Services were held Saturday
at 11 a. m. and night, with a
good congregations present, but
the great hour came Sunday
morning at 11 o'clock, After a
splendid sermon by Rev. And-
rews, an explicit statement of
the church debt was made to the
large congregation that had as-
sembled, and a cash collection of
nearly $1800 was realized, To
this amount other contributions
are being added this week, and
the building committee is now
getting the matter in shape for
the congregation to have a good
breathing spell, while carrying
the burden they took upon them-
selves in the erection of this
splendid edifice. With the pay-
ments teey are now making the
further burden will be greatly
lightened, which announcement
is hailed with joy by those who
are so faithfully standing by the
task of providing our little city
with this splendid church build-
ing. The pastor announced Sunday
night at the close of the occasion,
that they would have three more
"old fashioned quarterly meet-
ing" this year, similar to the one
they were then closing, except
the public collection for the
church debt, that the response
of the audience had been so gen-
erous that another collection for
this cause would not be needed
in a whole year.
