School Campaign.
Pecan Items
' A forward campaign in all de-
partments of the Sunday school
was' planned Saturday by the
executive committee of the Tex-
as Sunday School Association at
i luncheon meeting at the Orient-
al. Hotel. Dr. W. D. Bradfield,
chairman, was instructed to ap-
point committees to present de-
tails for the campaign at another
meeting.
4 On account of the size of the .propel the "Ship of Zion"
State, five districts will be creat-
ed with a general secretary in
.charge of each district. They
will be under the direction of W.
N. WigginB, general secretary of
tne State. There will be a key-
' .center in each district, probnbly
at Houston, San Antonio, San
Angelo, Amarillo and Dallas.
Itallies will be be held first in
these centers, then in the comi-
ties in the district and finally in
the precincts.
An attempt will be made to
double the membership of every
Sunday school in the' State and
to enlist the member in. temper-
ance work. Dallas News.
Cotton Mill Probable
Taylor, Texas, Oct. 30. Sim
Lewia of Dallas, promoter, is in
Taylor in the interest of the es-
1 tablishment here of a cotton mill
and is receiving considerable en-
couragement A meeting of the
business men and merchants has
been dalled for the Retail Mer-
' chants association's office Mon-
day afternoon at 3 o'clock, at
Which time definite plans will be
formulated toward preliminary
organization of a stock company.
It is hoped to organize for from
$100,000 to $150,000. and build a
mill that will employ from 125 to
J.50 people, which would mean a
, yearly payroll of approximately
?80,000 to $100,000 or front $7000
to $8000 monthly.
Attention is called to the fact
that Texas is now tbitkly enough
populated to demand more fac-
tories and manufacturing inter-
' estajin other words, to the extent
that the State can no longer de-
fend wholly upon agricultural
and live stocK interests. Taylor
as the center of the richest cot-
ton farming land in the world,
with cheap fuel easily accessible
with the best water supply
known and unsurpassable climate
is consider an ideal location for a
cotton mill, and it is believed the
enterprise will be sucbessf ully
launched.
The box supper given by the
good people of Donahoe Satur-
day night was a splendid success
inasmuch as the receipts as .a
whole amounted to something
over seventy dollars.
I Donahoe never does anything
by halves, and with her wide-
(awake zealous Sunday school
, superintendent. Mr. Billy Moore,
at the head of public enterprises
jand enthusiastic members, to
we
predict a successful future for
Donahoe in fullest acceptation ot
the term, as to doing things.
When churches. Sunday school
and other auxiliaries, pertinent
to the progressive march of com-
munities, are permitted to be
numbered among the things that
were, it requires no prophetic
vision to count in "wee sma"
numbers, the days left, before
all, will be hushed in oblivion,
thus proving the truth:
"The best laid schemes of
mice and men,
Gang aft agley.
And leave us naught but grief
and pain,
For promised joy."
If there is an indispensable
necessity in anything, it is to
teach boys and girls how to
make a life, and not so much of
the way to make a living, and
play the role of Shy locks.
Cotton Dicking seems again the
order of the day, and many are
the wishes, that Jack Froat
would intervene and help burst
the slothful bolls, that the mar-
ketable condition of the rem-
nants might be had land thus, be
ready for the coming advance-
ment in prices.
Pecans are opening rapidly
now, much to the joy of the
whistling boy, who gets the lions
share, in the end. Eighteen cent
per per pound turkeys are lar-
gely decimating the promises of
their being a part of the Christ-
mas bill of fare, for money is
more to be sought, than the well
being of the inner man. Father
Patterson carried ye scribe into
his cellar Sunday and exhibited
his well starved stock of canned
fruits, which was quite enough
as a whole to please the appetite
of the most fastidious epicure in
aa much as many varities of
fruits crowded the shelves, and
the most commendatory part of
it was, they were home raised
and home canned.
Ye subscribers to the Tribune
are grateful for the space given
them in its columna from these
parts. X Y Z
J Prosperity In South
Keacnes mgii lcyci.
. Memphis, Tenn.. Oct. 28.
Bank deposits in the Southern
States are greater than they have
ever been in the history of the
South. Cotton planters are roll-
ing in wealth.. Cotton seed this
f,all is commanding almost as
much money as both cotton and
seed brought last year. More
farmers have money to deposit
In the banks than ever before.
Big Price For TurKeys Dae.
Cuero, Tex.. Oct. 28. -The
highest price ever paid for live
weight turkeys is predicted for
next week when the two dress-
ing plants here will begin active
work for the season. Tne crop
about here is very short. Cuero
dealers failed to submit bids for
supplying Texas soldiers with
Thanksgiving turkey on account
of the fact that the Government
bid had a provisional clause m
the contract, nullifying the order
in the event troops are moved
from the State.
