BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF TEXAS.
"Webref, by a joint roolntion of ihe'lasi session of the State Le-
gislature, appioved -March 11, ISIS, a certain amendment to the
Constitution of the State is proposed ; w hich joint resolution im in
the words and figures Following, to wit:
Joint Resolution propoMng an amendment to the Constitution ol
the State of Texas.
Jt Section' 1. Be it resulted by the Lazislalure of Hie S'atc of
Texas, That the Coiteltlutitm of the State of Texas he so altered
ind amended, that the Judges of the Supreme Court. Judges of the
District Couils, Attorne -General, Diincl Attorney-, Comptroller
of Public Accounts, Treasuier of the Slate, and the Commissioner
of the General Land Office, shall, at the expiration of their respect-
ive terms of office, or in case a vacancy imy occur in either of
. hem, by death, resignation, or otherwise, alter ihh amendment
lakes effect, and thereafter, be elected by the qualified electors of the
State in the manner prescribed by law.
"Sec. 2. Be it further resolved, Tnat the election for Disttict
Jadge and District Attorneys shall be confined to their respective
Districts.
"Sec. 3. Be it farther resolved, That the Governor cause this re-
solution to be duly pnplished in the public prints of the Siate, at j
least three months belore the next general election lor rcpresen:a-
tives of the State Legislature-"
And whereas, the thirty-seventh section of the General Provis-
ions of the Constitution provides as follows:
Sfction 37. The Legislature, whenever-two-thirds of each
House shall deem it necessary, may propose amendments to this
Constitution ; which proposed amendments shall be duly published
in the public psrints of the State, at least three months before the
next general election of Representatives, for ihe consideration ol
the people; and it shall be the duly of the several returning officer,
Et the next election -which shall be thus holden, to open a poll for
and make a return to the Secretary of Stale, of the names of all
those voting for Representatives, who have voted on such proposed
amendments; and if, thereupon, it hall pppearihata majority of
nil ihe citizens of this State, voting for Repieentatives, have voted
in favor of such proposed amendments, and two-third-, of each
House of the next Legislature shall, after such election, and before
-mother, ratify the same amendments 03' yeas and navs, they shall
oe valid to all intents tind purposes, as parts of this Constitution:

said sessions, have been read on three several days, in each Houe."
.Now, therefore, I, George T. Wood, Governor of the State of
Texas, do, hereby, in pursuance 01 the requirements of the law and
the Constitution, order and direct that the ?bove recited joint reso-
lution be published in ihe public pi ints of this State, for the conside-
ration of the people, at least three months previous to the next gene-
ral election to be held throughout this State, on the fir-t Mondnj'
" (the sixth day) of August ensuing. And I do further order and di-
rect rhe Chief Justices of the several rounties (and in cae of va-
cancy in the office of Chief Justice, or the inability of that officer to
"act, then any two of the County Commissioners) to cause palls to
be opened at the several precincts in their respective counties, on
the said first Monday (the sixth day) ol August next, and the votes
nf all those voting for Representatives in the'State Legislature, to
be taken for and against the 'adoption of the said proposed amend-
''menf.
The Chief Justices of the several counties, (and in case of va-
cancy in the office of Chief Justice, or the inability of that officer to
act, then any two of the County Commissionns,) will return to the
Secretary of Stale, complete lists of the names of all thoe voting
lor Kepreseatatives in th Legislature; which lists must show who
Yoted for and who voted against the said proposed amendmei.t, as
well as the names of those who did not vote at all upon the question,
as a majority of the whole number of voles cast for Representatives
throughout the State seems lo be contemplated as necessary to an
amendment of the Constitution.

Slatem the first Monday in August next:
Now therefore, I, GEORGE T. WOOD, Governor
of the State of Texas, do. by virtue of the authority
in me vested, hereby order and direct that polls be
opened at the several precincts of the respective conn-
lies in this State, on the first Monday (the sixth day)
'ot August next, for the election, 'by ballot, of a Gover-
nor, a Lieutenant Governor and a Commissioner of the
General Land Office. The Chief Justices of the se-
veral counties (and in case of vacancy in the office of
Chief Justice, or inability of that officer to act, then
any -two of the County Commissioners) will, accord-
ingly, give due notice and cause polls to be opened at
the several precincts of their respective counties, on
the said first Monday (the sixth day) of August next,
for the election as aforesaid, of a Governor, a Lieuten-
ant Governor, and a Commissioner of the General
.Land Office of this State. The returns of the elec-
tion for Governor and Lieutenant Governor will be
.properly made out. sealed up, and transmitted by the

Montgomery, Navarro, Nueces, Refugio, Robertson,
San Patricio, Starr, Santa Fe, Travis, Victoria, Walk-
er, Washington, Webb. Williamson and Wharton, res-
pectively, composing the Second Congressional Dis-
trict, give due nonce audcause polls to be opened as
aforesaid, at the several precincls of their respective
counties, for the election of a Representative in the
Congress of the United States for the Disirict to which

elect one Senator and make returns to the Chief Jus-
tice of Collin County.
Dist. No. 5 Rusk and Panola will elect one Se-
nator, and make returns to the Chief Justice of Har-
lison County.
Dist. No. G Smith, Harrison and Upshur will
elect one Senator, and make returns to the Chief Jus
tice of Rusk county.
Dist. No. 7 Nacogdoches and Shelby will elect
one Senator, and make returns to the Chief Justice of
Nacogdoches County.
Disr. No. S San-Augustine, Sobine, Newton and
Jasper will elect one Senator, and make returns to
the Chief Justice of San Augustine County.
Dist. No. 9 Liberty. Jefferson, Polk, Tyler and
Angelina will elect one Senator, ond make returns
to the Chief Justice of Liberty County.
Dist. No. 10 Cherokee, Anderson and Houston
will elect one Senator, and make returns to the Chief
Justice of Cherokee County.
Dist. No. 11 Galveston and Brazfrria will elect
one Senator, and make returns to the Chief Justice of
Galveston County.
Dist. No. 12 Harris will elect one Senator.
Dist. No. 13 Giimes, Walker and Montgomery
will elect one Senator, and make returns to the
Chief Justice of Grimes County.
Dist. No. 14 Washington, Burleson, Milam and

to the Chief Justice of Washington County.
Dist. No. 15 Limestone, Navarro, Leon, Robert-

and make return thereof according to law to the Sec-

It will be necessary that each voter should particu-
larly designate upon his ballot, in connection with the
name of "the person voted for. the Senatorial or Rep-
iesentative district for which the Senator or Represen-
tative, as the case may be, is to be elected.
