The site iscross a channel six hundred and thirty yards in
wid.th being at a narrow neck on Galveston or more properly
Tr inily bay, where the water ebbs and flows from one to three
feet; the bottom is of sand and stiff clay, and the centre channel
for about fifty yards is from eight to twelve feet in depth at high
water, gradually decreasing to the extremelies at each side.

as there is almost a daily conveyance from Galveston to Cham-
