fpEXIANTTNlVERSAL PILLS Prepared after a cartel i
X personal examination of the diseases incident tokis fit-J

ni''w.w ij it,M jiciutii..-
The want of some general medicine within the reach of e ve
IV one, and particularly where no phvsician can be consulted,
-I has often been the subject of mucu regret in this community.
ine scattered settlement and also laini ties residing somr
considerable distance lrom each other, andentirely without an
medical aid, has no doubt sent many to an untimely grave.
To obviate, in a great measure, this serious"cvil, and in some
degree to promote the happiness ol the citizens of this lepnli
lie, these pills are prepared with a particular adaptation to ihc
climate ol this country. Perhaps no part of the world posses
Bes the natural advantages ior health and happiness which is in
the possession of settlers in this country; but yet from chan-
ges in the season, and especially from cold to heat, the blood
becomes sluggish, and humors, which during the cool weather
remainin a" 10 rpidandinactive stale, change tlieif character, and
if not remaved in season, debilitate the wliole system and cause
violent diseases; such is the tact with Billions attacks of every
kind and lrom these remaining for a Ions time in the svstein tiu-
attended to, they appear determined never to yield to ihe power
01 medicine; wnereas it persons in tne spring and tall ot ine
year would make use of those Pills, say one or two on going c
Led at night, to cleanse the system of these humors, they would
find themselves far less liable to the attacks of this class of dis-
eases. And the same general remarks .will apply with e jual
truth to the liability to attacks of Congestive Fever, and, in
fact to most of the diseases to which we are subject.
The inhabitants of this country are. liable to fewer diseases
than in most any other part of the world, and with a gene) a 1
care to health, and when first attacked to make use pf means
to relieve themselves, would cast the foul aspersion, that Texas
is an unh'allhy country, back into the teeth of those croaking
skeptics who would have the world believe that thev hold in
their individual hands all the good that can possibly 6e given
to man by a bountiful Creator.
The effects of these Pills upon the system, is thoroughly In
cleanse the stomach andbowels, andatthe same time to give theni
a healthy and invigorating tone; and certain relief can always
b'e depended upon by following the directions 'which will ac-
company each box.
Thesfc pills can always be ob'ained of the legular appointed

New EnmoN or the Revised Code op Louisiana.
1 hasten for some time made known to the. public that the
subscribers arc engaged in preparing, for the press, a new
edition of the Louisiana Civil Code. They were, lrom the
first, aware of the great difficulty and responsibility attending
.the publication of the work; and it was not without great hesi-
tation that they consented to the undertaking. Eut the previous
edition, amounting to about three thousand copies, and which
had cost the State more than thirty-thousand dollars, was en-
tirely our of print.' For more than two years past the usual
price of the work has been lrom thirty to fifty dollars.
It is a system of written rule which so immediately operates
upon, every individual of the State, interested either in agri-
culture or commerce, and which governs the disposition of
so much property coming to us from other States, that unlike
almost, anv other treatise upon law it is as much the tcxt-
"book and manual of the merchant and the planter as it is of
mc uuvuu; gcimciiiau auu piuiesicnai aovocaic.
The lawyers of the adjoining states, and in fact of all those
states upon' the Ohio and MississiDti rivers which find a mart
for thcirproduce in Louisiana, haveafrequtnt necessity of ref
erence 10 me cooe, rnu mane it an indispensable requisite to their
libraries: andin the citvof New Orleans the book is as sure to
be'found in the merchant's counting-room as upon the desk of
juogeorineiaoie 01 me attorney, it is not surprising, there-
fore, that the first edition of the work was so quickly disposed
of, and, although a mere leprint of it tj ould supply the public
necessity, yet it would be imperfect and unsatistactorv unless
annotated with reference to ihe Reports and Statutes, 'in or-
aer 10 eu-orace me numerous amendments which have been
made by the Legislature, and the important decisions and con-

the Supreme Court.
The publishers have secured, for the general superintendence
and editorial department of the work, the professional labors of
wheclock o. urroN, .tsq., amemhar pt the Hew Orleans tor.
The hon. iudjre Bcllard. rudee Bchmcdes and the hon George
Ecsti's have each kindly assisted Mr. Upton with the valuable
noies wnicn mey have collected in the course ol their studies
and practice; and to Mr. JN. K. Jennings, the partner ot Mr.
Upton, who is also engaged in the work, Geo. Strawbridoe,
Esq., has presented the great mass ol rclerences contained in
his office-copy of the cede, and which have.been made by him
from time to time during the whole period of his distinguished
professional labors.' The -subscribers ma)' therefore well trust
that the annotations of the work will be all that industry and
labor, assisted by learning and experience, can perform.
In putting forth this prospectus end solici ing general sub-
scribers to the work, the publishers takes pride in the fact that
the Legislature of Lonhiana has authorized the Governor to
order one thousand copies of it for the future use of the State.
The readiness with which this number was taken by the As-
sembly, evinced their just sense of the value of the work; and
they thereby extended that confidence in the t.bility of the pub-
lishers and editors which it is hoped is not wholly. undeserved.
The work wilHie printed in Ficnch'f.nd English, upon good
paper and with clear type, nor will any expense or care be
spared to make the whole mechanical execution of it corres-
pond with its great importance.
It will probably be ready for delivery in the month of Septem-
bernext; and the price will be, to subscribers, S15 S5 lobe paid
at the time of subscribing., ,
The subscription list once closed, the ttoreprice will be $-20

bankef the river, that part which fronts the river, measuring
sixty leet above the level of the water, and back from the river
one hundied and twenty feet. It is at that spot" known as
' Garners ferry,' -and fronts six hundred yards on the river.
The ferry at this place is passable, at all limes, when other
ferries overflow and are impassable, or require, a ferriage ol
miles through Ihe bottoms. ,
Swartwotu is situated in as fine a region of country as, can
be lound in Texas high and healthy finely timbered inter-
spersed occasionally wnh prairies and numerous mill seats.
Families who have resided inthe vicinity of the town, hac
tet'd the health of the place. Several springs or veins of excellent
water issue lrom the bank of the river, above high-water mai k,
immediately in front of the town. In fact a more prominent
situation ior a town, in point of general convenience, health,
&c., could not have been found from the mouth of the Trinity
to its -source.
There is fine river navigation fjr steam-boats from the Ba
to far above Swartwout; the steam-boat 'Branch T. ATcher,r
captian Ross, having ascendeda considerable distance above
that, last summer.
A hotel and several dwelling are now being built in llu:
town, and several other buildings are to be completed by the
1st of January; among which is a place of public worship, a
seminar- for children, (of which there is a number in the Im-

CUl'i' OK AltANbAb. This location situate on Live-Oat
' Point, a peninsula projecting into the heart of Aransasi
Bay, is two well known to need either eulogy or description.
The pass into this Bay, if not the best, is certainly not surpas-
sed by any on the coast of Texas, either for its depth of wa-
ter or other advantage.. The Pilots during the past summer
have invariably reported twelve feet water on the bar. This;
depth of water may be easily imagined when it is known that"
the large bay of Corpus Christi which extends itself to the
Brazos dc Santaigo is principally supplied with its immense
sheet of water through this bay, as the best and safest pass
into it is through the bay of Aransaso; which affords good an-
chorage and perfect security for vessels in stormy weather,
Live-Oak Point crn be approached on two sides with twelve feel
of water; having also, an abundant supply of excellent fresh
weter.
The-surrounding bays cannot be surpassed either in variety,
quality and quantity ol fresh oysters, turtle &c., with an abund-
ant supply of wildfowel at the proper seasons.
And independent of its claims as a commercial point, which
cannot bs doubted by any one possessing a topographical
knowledge of the country, its great elevation and it umbra-
geous Livk Oaks, with its surrounding scenery, renders it
probably one of the most desirable locations on the whole coast.
iims town commenced improving during tne past summer,
and has now some ten or fifteen good buildings, and Others
going on as fast as circumstances will permit.
The proprietors are well' aware that the situation of the
country at present will not warrant any thing' like a fair sale
of the property as .such, they design offering a limited numbsi
of lots for the accommodation of those who desire to make im-
mediate settlement. We willJoffer;,at public auction, onthe23tb

quite convenient, Such as pine, cedar, and. a large quantity (if
