Runaway,
FROM me three months ago, an African negro man named Arch ; he is
about 25 years of age, a tall slim fellow, very black, some scars on his fore-
head, also some small scars on each side of his cheek, and a long foot; he has
been taken up five or six times, since he ran off from me, and made his esoape
every-time; he has broke irons off twice since he lef. me; he is a great rascal,
and has as much sense as an American negro ; he speaks but little English.31 will
pay any man a liberal reward who will take up said negro, have him ironed
and delivered, or secured so that I get him. My brother, P. D. McNeel had an
African negro man that ran off in company with Arch when he leftyne first; his
name is Iona. about 28 years of age, scarred on the face and on each side of his
cheeks, and verjr much cut and scarred round his neck : he is of yellow com
plexion, and a stout built man- speaKs some fcngiisn : ne ran on jasr. year, anu
was taken in Robertson's colony. I have no doubt he is somewhere in that sec-
tion now; he has never been seen since he left; he is a very smart, sensible ne-
gro, and will make his escape unless securely ironed. A liberal reward will be
paid lor one or botn ot them, n delivered to me at my plantation, eigni miiea

mSTRESERVE'J) SALE
OF
HOUSTONCIT Y3LOTS.
THE undersigned, agent of the pr-opr ietors, informs the public that
a public sale of lots in the city of H ouston will take place on Wed-
nesday, the 15th of November next, and will continue from day to day,
until the whole are disposed of.
The rapid progress of improvement in this city has astonishsd eve-
ry beholder, and is -not rivalled p robaloly by anv new town in the Uni-
ted States. On the 19th ofJanu ary las"t the firs't lot was sold, and up to
this time the sales amount to up wards of two hundred thousand dollars,
and every da)r is rapidly increaf sing the amount.
No inland town in Texas can compare with this in point of eligibil-
ity of location; and when a raj J road, forty miles in extent, shall be run
connecting it with" the 'Brazos river, we unhesitatingly assert that no in-
land town in the United .Slafr 3s will have the same extensive rich coun-
try to support it.
Situated at the head o7 f navigation on Buffalo bayou, it must over
command the trade and pro duce of the country to the north of it: and for
years to come will be the f .topping point of emigration through Galves-
.ton bay.
The "Texas rail'ro? id navigatton and banking1 institution is locat-
ed at this place, and-fifte en thousand dollars has already been appropri-
ated by the directors to the building of a banking house: and we are as-
sured the bank willxorr imence operaiion next November.
The railroad fro ,m this city to the Brazos river will positively be
constructed. 'Eighty- six thousand dollars in this place has already been
subscribed, and immw jty days from this time three hundred thousand
dollars will be-subscri ibed.
The proprietors thus far have spared no expense in urging forward
the improvements this city. They have lately donated one thousand
acres of the timber 3d land to a New York company, who have obligated
themselves forthw" ith to erect a steam saw mill, lath and shingle machine,
to cost thirty 'thou sand dollars; calculated also for dressing the plank
for immediate -us' 3.
