spectively made the allstate
band last week when Miss Mari- >
lyn Witt took five of her band
students to Lubbock where they
entered the Region 1 Band clinic
held there Friday and Saturday
The others making the trip
were Richard Waters and Doro-
thy Bernson clarinets and Nor-
ma Bernson cornet
They all played In the clinic
band under the direction of Chief
Davidson director of the Plain
view band and tried out for the
allstate honors
Stan was the only bass clari
net player to place In Region 1
Both boys wll go to Mineral
Wells In February to try out for
more honors

The Christmas issue will be-
taken to the postolflce Sunday
December 23 and will be In
both the city and rural mall
boxes on Monday morning

All Santa Claus letters received
by The News will be set In type
an3 then placed in a large box
Five letters will te drawn from
this box by some merchant on
Main street and cacti of the
writers of these five letters will
be mailed one of the new dollar
bills sent to The News by Santa
Claus
After the drawing the entire
box of letters will be airmailed
to Santa Claus at the North Pole

Smith Given Two
Years In Prison
In a verdict returned at 730
last Tuesday evening Hurdle
Smith of Glazier was given two
years in prison He was being
tried at Lipscomb on a charge of
receiving and concealing stolen
property two whiteface heifer
calves owned by D B Kirk who
lives southeast of Lipscomb
The Smith case was started
the day before at ten oclock lnj
the morning The Jury was out
nearly four hours before It re
turned Its verdict
