ways been his home He has
served his people and his county
all ot his adult life He has
served on petit and grand Juries
and election boards for more
than forty years starting In the
days when It was difficult to
secure enough men to hold court
because there were so few ell
glble men In the county
And now hardly a day goes
by that someone doesnt come
call or writs to the Judge at
his office or home regarding
something about someone
land titles school records
birth or death records
historical Information or
Just plain advice Nearly al-
ways he can giro them the
Information desired quickly
and accurately especially if
It pertains to land or lots In
Hemphill county during the
past sixty years And II he
doesnt hare the Information
offhand he gets It for them
pleasantly and with never a
thought ol charging for this
extra work in his busy life
Judge Wood has been engaged

has held

his career He served as
deputy in the tax collectors
office for six years prior to tak-
ing over the Judges office
Perhaps as no one else he is
thoroughly acquainted with
county affairs and conditions
andhas always stayed on the
Job and taken care of the
peoples business

promises the same sound busi-
ness administration he has
given In the past And having
served the people of Hemphill
county faithfully and sincerely

garage at Gem City from 1921
to 1946 He sold out about four
years ago and since that time
he has been engaged in farm-
ing at his place eight miles
south and west of Gem
This Is the first time Mr
Pyeatt has sought reelection
He has tried to fulfill the duties
of the office to the best of his
ability and promises It re-
elected to continue to work

2000 Fire Loss at
Donaldson Farm
Sunday Morning
Large Quantity of
Feed Tools Burned
The Millard Donaldsons suf
fered a fire loss of around
200000 Sunday when their
large bunk house and garage
burned to the ground at their
place on the Washita river about
nine mlles north of Alllson
M Donaldson discovered
the blase about 1130 In the
morning as he was riding
pasture while the rest oi the
family was attending church
at Allison Men from the
R T Alexander ranch located
about a quarter of a mile
away helped him save the
pastures and the meat house
which was located Just back
of the bunk house The home
would have been In danger
except for the fact that the
wind was blowing In a south-
westerly direction
It Is thought that the Are
started from faulty wiring In
the loft of the building an old
army barracks The structure
had been rewlred twice before
It was given approval and
hooked up to the REA about two
months ago
A large quantity of cake cane
and clover seed and valuable
tools were destroyed as well as-
a brand new motor bike all of
the clothing and bedding of
four of the boys two new mat
tresses and several sacks of
sugar and beans
The Donaldsons have ten
children all of them at home
except one Several of them are
Just recovering from the mumps
and chicken pox
Mr Donaldson is a brother of
Mrs H B Steele of Canadian
Charlie Alfords
Brother Killed
Charlie Alford returned home
last week from Prather Calif
where he attended funeral serv-
ices for his brother Ted Alford
who was killed In an accident
February 10
The 42yearold bulldozer
operator was thought to have
been killed Instantly when he
was pinned to the seat of his
tractor by the heavy limb of a
fallen tree he was pushing with
the blade of his machine
Officers had to saw away the
limb before the body could be
removed from the tractor
Mrs John Wheeler returned
last Thursday from visiting her
sisters at Stillwater and Okla
homa City

been chosen to head the Eagle
Lake school system from a field
of sixteen applicants for the
coveted position with the upto
date school

this year after having served
a period of twentyfive years
