Free Theatre Tickets
Just About Gone
The free theatre tickets being
given by The News for the first
time tills year to the writers of
each of the first one hundred
letters to Santa Claus are just
about gone All children are
asked to get their letters to The
News office this weekend If
possible Those sent by mail
should be addressed as follows

The tickets are taxpaid and
good for any show at the Palace
theatre The News Is giving the
tickets this year to help Santa
Claus get the letters In earlier
than usual All letters received
will be printed and they will
also be put in a big box and
sent to Santa Claus at the North
Pole before Christmas
Last year The News received
and printed more than one hun-
dred letters to Santa Claus Most
of them were written at the last
moment but they all reached
Santa Claus in time
Varied and Interesting are the
childrens letters received so
far Two were received this Fri-
day from Round Rock Texas
They were sent by GInny and
Dinah Potts and each of them
drew nice colored pictures for
Old Santa Dinah even drew an
outline of her hand but she
doesrft want gloves she wants
a REAL WATCH She says she
Is tired of toy watches
Well Christmas comes but
once a year and In three more
weeks Its going to be heicl
Mrs Joe F Coffee of Amarillo
will review Lloyd C Douglas
newest book The Big Fisher-
man at the Methodist church
in Miami next Friday afternoon

Birthday Party
Margaret Porter daughter of

Monday with a birthday party

Margarets mother served hot

J E Gilbert underwent
major operation at the Shattuck
hospital Tuesday morning and
is reported to be doing as well
as can be expected He was
given a blood transfusion imme
diately following the operation
Those from here who went to
Shattuck to offer blood were

Mr Gilbert was on the oper
ating table for two and onehalf

Frankie Sue Chaffin
In School Hospital
Mrs Tilda Chaffin received a
letter thb first of the week from
Roy Moore superintendent of the
Texas school for the deaf at
Austin stating that her eight
yearold daughter Frankie Sue
had been placed in the school
hospital for a few days as a pre
cautionary measure after the
child tripped or was pushed by
another child while ascending
the stairs at the school
Frankie Sue received a bad
blow to her Upper front teeth
two of which were broken and
had been sealed by the school
dentist
Supt Moore thought that she
would be able to go back to the
class rooms within a few days
Mr and Mrs Virgil Helton of
Briscoe were In town Wednes-

Mrs Brown Dies At
Home of Son Here
Mrs Martha Catherine Martin
Brown passed away here Sunday
noon at the home of her son
T P Brown where she had been
bedfast since last New Years
DayTho
Tho aged lady was born at
Albany in Clinton county Ken-
tucky on January 21 1867 She
was married to General Marvin
Brown In Kentucky In 1898 He
preceded her in death In 1931 at
Artesla New Mexico One son
Haskell died in 1933
Mrs Brown was converted
when a young girl and was a
member of the United Brethren
church at Chanute Kansas She
came to Canadian to make her
home with her son a year ago
last August
Survivors include two sons
J D Brown of Chanute and T P
Brown of Canadian four grand-
sons James and Merle Brown of
Chanute and Francis and Nor-
man Brown of Canadian three
granddaughters Mrs Grady
Polp of McKlnney Texas and
Loujse and Lucille Brown of
Canadian1 by two nephews and
five nieces and by a host of
friends
Funeral services were held
here Wednesday afternoon at
two oclock with the Rev Frank
Smith a United Brethren mln
ietcr and old friend of the fam-
ily from Leavenworth Kansas
officiating

all favorites of the deceased
