Even with the beginning of the new ysar, the 845th
Engineer aviation Battalion had no knowledge of its future
assignrent, with. t.B exception thot there was a surety
of the Unit rmovri-r from England b-! forcee Base, Louisiana
to a Department of the ,-rmy post, Word had been
received that the SCI;-W AF program was to end, and 1 March
had been set as the formal cut-off daty,
The Battalion, therefore, heavily accentuated military
training for all personnel and maintenance for
all equipment 1aill personnel who were not necessary to
the essential functions of Battalion business attended
daily classes on all facets of military performance of
duty. There were classes in map reading, rigging, demolition,
air movements, customs and traditions, and
military courtesy, to name a few. The great majority
of all troops in both line companies and Headquarters
company participated in these classes. In addition,
daily close order drill periods were held each morning
and physical training periods each afternoon that all
personnel were required to attend, This'was coupled
with more rigid inspections and prompt correction of deficiences.1
