BULLETIN OF HOWARD PAYNE COLLEGE
2. A jury examination for major and minor students of applied
music will be held at the close of each semester. The jury
examination determines both grades for the semester and the passing
from the existing class level to the next above. The junior
recital determines admission to the senior class; the senior recital
determines graduation.
3. In the instance of individuals who are not equipped to
perform a senior recital for the Bachelor of Music Education Degree
on a standardized basis, proficiency examinations covering
both the major and minor applied music fields will be administered
in terms of (1) applied music attainments, (2) repertoire
memorized, and (3) a compilation of teaching literature. Moreover,
a three-hour thesis in lieu of the senior recital will be required,
the subject and development of same being subject to the
approval of the Head of the Department of Music.
4. All students who are majoring in applied music must pass
an examination in Piano to the extent of doing simple accompanying,
unless by approval of the Head of the Department of Music,
a substitute plan is employed.
SUB-COLLEGE AND SPECIAL COURSES IN
APPLIED MUSIC
INSTRUMENT E, OR VOICE E. Private lessons on any instrument,
or in voice may be listed as E for students demanding
special classification. Practice requirements, for these courses, will
conform to the minimum practice listed for Freshmen and Sophomore
Applied Music Students. If one lesson per week is taken,
the practice remains the same, but the credit is reduced by onehalf.
Two lessons per week for two semester hours of credit.
NON-CREDIT APPLIED MUSIC
INSTRUMENT 0, OR VOICE O. Any individual, whether college
student, or non-college may register for Applied Music by Private
Lessons for non-credit. Practice may be agreed upon by the
student with the teacher. Tuitions will be as quoted in the catalogue
for college music students. This non-credit course makes
it possible for any college student to study music irrespective of
academic load.
