WASHINGTON Private correspondence
has be n uncoveied by this
column revealing that Vice President

Rcgers held up the indictment
until aftr the election h n acted
against tho wishes of the vice president
who had become politically
Indebted to Hoffa
As early as la sl August an Orlando
Fla Grand Jury was ready to
Indict Hoffa for allegedly misusing
union funds to promote a real tstate
development But the nndictmait
was not brought Rogers sat on it
while Hoffa was helping the Republicans
in the presidential campaign
Hoffas political support was ar
ranged by a Nxon emissary who
recretly hii ddled wi h him in a
Miami B ach hotel roam more than
a year ago The controversial Hoffa
was careful not to endorse Nixon
openly put passed word to his
henchmen across the country to
campaign for N xon The teamsters
were Instrumental for insance in
swathing Ohjo considered sals for
Kennedy into the Nixon column
But once the election was over
Rogers went ahead with the Hoffa
indictment anyway Nixon was not
so quick to forgot his political obligation
and tred to talk Rogers out of
it However thi attorney general not
only Jgncrcd Nixon but gave the indictment
extra significance by announcing
it hlmselC tfro m Washington
I
ExCalifornia Congressman Oak

between Nixon and Hoffa promptly
apologizd to Hoffa In a D ar Jm
letter dated December 8
I was sorry to hear of the ndict

a fact that your sicle of the case was
put before the vice president and
that he discussed the case with the
attorney general Bill Pogers
1 do not knew what was said bv
tho vice preside1 to Rogers I do
know however that th vice presided
has been sympathetic toward

subjected to undue harrassment by
certain parties He has consistently
refrained frcm critic zing you or
jumping on th bandwagon with
Ihssa Whs have felt Iha t kicking you
around was a popular a nd politically
expedient thing to do
It would be my surmise that Bil
Rogers acted as he did for reason
of his cvni Mr Nixon having los

Columnist Drew Pearson Tells iKbuy Rejoins
Of Nixonrioffa Liiik in Election
Dear Editor
In some quarters there is concern
relative to how television and other
automatic teaching devces are go
I ing to effect teaching and the number
of classroom teachers needed
In October 1922 Colliers magazine
camo out with a very attentionde
i manding article entitled Enter
Teaching Films Exit Teacher
I From the catchy headlines of current
literature some might conclude
I Enter Television and Automatic
T achiig Devces Exit Teacher
Regardless of these sincere claims
and provocative articles the class
room teacher is still hero and will
continue to be the most important
factor in the teaching process Penicillin
lectric scalpel and wonder
I drug have not eliminated the family
doctor Instead they have been made
more efficient and serviceable Likewise
these additional multlssnsory
avenues of learning will make the
teacher more efficient more effective
and more serviceable
I Ibese new devices aie tools not
ends in thfcmselvcs There is no subv
stitutcfor a God fearing man or
I woman1 in a classroom with freedom
to tnch piipifs who have freedom
to barn There Is no substitute for
the contact of mind with mind
I There Is no miracle fn education ex
man from California 1 am satisfied
that he as well as Bob Finch
Nixons campaign manager pre
I sented the facts to Bill Rogers and
I that the latter acted as he did in
i what he bUleved to be his own self
interest
For the vice president to have
taken except on to his action publl
cely would have only caused Rogers
to defend his position also publicly
The vice pnsldent felt that that
would only put your friend further
on the spot
More about the Interesting alliance
between the vice president and
Jimmy Hoffa will follow n an early
