Lightning flashed outside the
huge arena and rain began to beat
a sharp tattoo on the roof
Tills in itself was not very unusual
but someone had neglected
to close a big skylight and torrents
of water came down through
the opening to give the excited
Parisians an unscheduled baptizingIn Great Britain where rain falls
on one side of a house and the
sun shines on the other the water
would have gone unnoticed The
disciplined Britons would have put
up their everready umbrellas and
gone on listening
But no one has ever accused the
French of being disciplined and
they are allergic to water unless
It bubbles When the rain came
through the skylight they began to
scatter A fat woman began climbing
over seats and lost one of her
shoes in the process A news photographer
with fast reflexes caught
her in the undignified position as
she pulled her pounds over the hazardous
shortcut
Someone clambered up to the roof
and closed the skylight before complete
pandemonium broke loose but
no sooner had this been done than
little puddles of chaos began popping
up all over the arena
To coin a phrase the roof leaked
like a sieve and there wasnt
a pan in the house People sitting
on direct lines of fire began shifting
to other localities
The arena normally is used for
bicycle races but the bikes were
not nmning this night People were
taking quick stock of the situation
Billy handled it deftly Almost
without breaking stride he said
The God I have been talking about
is the one who brings the rain
God uses the rain to make flowers
grow and to help the farmers grow
food from the earth I grew up on
a farm down in North Carolina and
sometimes when it wouldnt rain
for long spells we wouldnt have
enough to eat I never complain about
the rain but thank God for
helping the farmers
The same God who brings the
rain loved you enough to send his
son Jesus Christ to die on the
cross for your sins
He was back nto the heart of
his message and the attention of
the audience had been recaptured
God is doing something special
in Paris Billy remarked as he prepared
to leave the arena
Col William D Kirkpatrick of
Waxahachie Tex chaplain of the
U S European command said he
spotted about 75 American servicemen
from all over France at the
second service A spiritual awakening
is under way in the armed
forces he said This is just

Wheat Revealed
Farmers who put wheat under
the 1955 support program must be
prepared to meet more specific
standards of grain sanitation
Under the revised program of the
Food and Drug administration
wheat does not meet the minimum
requirements for food if it contains
more than two rodent pel
lets per pint or comparable amounts
of contamination or contains two
per cent or more by weight of
kernels visibly damaged by insects
Wheat not meeting these standards
must be disposed of for nonfood
uses
The program based on minimum
sanitation standards was in effect
several years ago
Most of the wheat that leaves
Texas farms is clean grain well
above these standards W S Allen
extension agriculture engineer
points out The trouble lies
with a relatively few exceptions
resulting from qareless handling
and storage
Farm stored wheat offered as
security for pricesupport loans
will be sampletested at regular Intervals
and at time of delivery to
the CCC Except for the question
of reseal eliglllblllty the new requirements
do not apply to 1954
loan or purchase wheat If last years
wheat does not make the standards
it is not eligible for reseal but
can be delivered to CCC under pro
visions of the 1954 loan and pur
chaseagreement program
Complete information on the revised
sanitation program may be
obtained from county ASC offices
or from the county agricultural
agent Allen adds
