Research methods used in communication. Emphasis on the scientific method, survey research,
laboratory research, sampling procedures, questionnaire construction, and interviewing techniques.
Prerequisite: Psy. 3356 or equivalent.
6342. Seminar in Communication.
In-depth study of various problems and concepts in Communication. Students may repeat this
course with different content for a total of up to 9 hours credit.
6383. Cultural Case Studies.
Analysis of several intercultural encounters between U.S. citizens and foreigners in the latter's
cultural setting. Application to principles of cross-cultural involvement.

5356. Elementary Statistics.
Basic formulas, methods and interpretation of statistical measures.
5368. Psychological Tests and Measurement.
The characteristics of individual and group measurements as applicable for use in personnel and
guidance services.
5370. Social Psychology.
Factors and processes involved in intersocial stimulation and their products. Prerequisite:
Psychology 2320, or Sociology 2321,or 2322.
5382. Abnormal Psychology.
An analysis of the types of psychological abnormalities, their etiologies and accepted methods for
treatment. Prerequisite: 12 hours in psychology.
5385. Introduction to Counseling.
Introduction to counseling theory, philosophy, and principles.
5391. Group Dynamics.
The principles and operation underlying group actions and interactions. Participation in a human
relations laboratory is required.
*6311. General Research Methods.
An introduction to research methods and their application to research problems. Prerequisites:
Psychology 3356 or 3368 or equivalent. (Same as Com. 6311).
6325. Seminar in Small Group Behavior.
Observation and analysis of human behavior in small groups. Abstraction of taken-for-granted
behavior patterns and fundamental psychological variables universal to such groups.
6364. Career Analysis and Information.
A study of social, economic, and occupational information as related to helping relationships. It is
designed to acquaint the student with the essential nature of such information in career decision making,
job analysis, and its use in career counseling.
6386. Pre-Retirement Planning.
An overview of social gerontology; issues in pre-retirement planning; approaches to pre-retirement
planning; skills and techniques for group participation; and retirement issues such as finances and
