Bachelor of Science in
Education Degree (BSEd)
The BSED degree is for those students wishing to teach art in
junior high or high school. Upon completion of the degree requirements
the student is certified to teach at the secondary level. The BSED
requires a minimum of 48 semester hours of art. See the Department
of Education section of the catalog.
Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art
(128 total hours)The BA degree allows the student to elect a studio or art history
emphasis for his studies. The BA in studio requires a minimum of 48
semester hours in art. It is a program of study for those who want to
study art as an area of emphasis within the framework of a liberal arts
education. The program provides a solid foundation for further study at
the professional or graduate level.
The BA in art history is an interdepartmental program in which 18
hours of art history are supplemented by 12 hours from such other
areas as history, philosophy, archaeology, anthropology, literature, music
and drama.
General Education Requirements
49-72 hours. Same as BFA except:

Foreign Language (6-14 hrs.) French, Spanish or German. Foreign
Language is not required for the BA with a studio emphasis.
Science (6-12 hrs.) The science requirement depends on a student's high
school work. If he has had two units of science (not counting general
science), he is required to take six hours of science, and this must be
divided between two fields. If he has less than two units of high school
science (not counting general science), he is required to take 12 hours,
and this must be divided between two fields (six hours in each field).
Mathematics (0-6 hrs.) The math requirement is based on a student's
competency in arithmetic and algebraic skills as determined by the
student's score on the math section of the ACT entrance exam. If a
student scores 24 or more, he is not required to take any math, If he
scores 16-23, he must take Math 103. If he scores 15 or below, he must
take Math 101, and 103.
