An introductory course to oral interpretation
and techniques of oral reading.
3358. Oral Interpretation as a Fine Art
The interpreter joins the literary artist in making
words alive for an audience. Joint reading
programs are required. Prerequisite: Communication

4381. Oral Interpretations of the Forms of Literature
Interpretation of dramatic literature; the cutting,
arrangement, and presentation of novels for
oral reading purposes; programs of poetry reading;
and lecture-reading hours. An open individual
reading program is required. Prerequisite:
Communication 3358.
4382. Oral Interpretation of the Bible
Applies fundamentals of effective oral interpretation
to Bible reading. (Same as Bible 3395

A study of scene design from the Greek period
to the present; the theory of scene design, and
its relation to the production.
3367. Theatre Lighting
A historical survey of lighting and its effect on
designing, directing, and acting.
4370. Advanced Directing: Principles and Practice
Play direction as it concerns the realistic play,
the period play, the musical play, and drama
staging. Prerequisite: Comm.-Drama 3354 or
by permission.
4395. History of the Theatre
World theatre through periods of great dramatic
productions, plays produced, and methods of
producing them in school and college theatres.
Prerequisite: 12 hours of speech, including
Comm.-Drama 2226, 2327, and junior standing.
Speech and Hearing Therapy
1101. Speech and Hearing Clinic
Private and small-group therapy for college
students needing speech improvement. May be
repeated for a maximum of three hours credit.
2335. Introduction to Speech Correction
An introduction to speech correction as an
educational and clinical field. Prerequisite:

A survey of the science of hearing, and of the
social and clinical endeavors centered in problems

3353. Hearing Rehabilitation
Theory and practice of acoustic amplification,
auditory training, speech reading, speech rehabilitation
for the acoustically handicapped.
3356. Functional Speech Disorders
Speech disorders as delayed speech, voice, and
articulation problems, and stuttering. Includes
case studies and clinical observation. Prerequisite:
Comm.-Speech 2335.
3357. Organic Speech Disorders
Speech problems associated with cleft palate,
cerebral palsy, laryngeal disorders, asphasia.
Includes case studies and clinical observation.
Prerequisite: Comm.-Speech 2335.64
