College Teaching
One of the most promising careers for history
and political science students is in this
field. For those who go on to a Master's degree,
openings are many in junior colleges (both Christian
and public colleges). Senior college positions
are also available to those with a Master's
degree, and especially to those who get the PhD.
Some of our graduates are highly esteemed faculty
members in several senior colleges, including
some very excellent schools. Other recent alumni
have good fellowships for further study at
several universities.
Government Service
The opportunity here is big. A history or
political science specialization is a good springboard
for a variety of positions in local, state,
and federal government. We have graduates
serving in several capacities. Several have had
Public Administration fellowships for further
study. Some have held NASA fellowships. Some
have been assistants to Congressmen.
Law
Many of our recent majors have gone into
the study of law and are engaged in successful
practice. There is no better pre-law preparation
than a major in history or political science.
General Education
For one who does not expect to build a professional
career directly on a major in history,
this is still an excellent area for specialization.
Partaking as it does of the nature of the "humanities"
and the "social sciences," it gives one a
better understanding of man, and his relationship
with others.
